After a 35+ year drought, 2015 brought us a newly crowned Triple Crown winner in American Pharoah. Cue 2018 and it seems Justify is unbeatable. Or is he? Took the Kentucky Derby with ease but seemed less decisive winning the Preakness. Did he just have an off day or a bad ride and will rebound big in the Belmont or is he not as good as many think? I will be playing him to lose as I might get some good odds on other solid horses who can get the job done. If he's that good then I tip my hat.

I usually only realize there was one of these horse races after it happened.

Oooooh my favorite topic!

Good question. Is he good enough? Maybe. The Derby and Preakness were both on very muddy off tracks, so we'll have to see what it is in NY that day. He *almost* lost to Wayne Lukas's longshot. I mean, like 2 more strides and it would have been Justify in #2.

Take a look at this. It's a side by side of AP's and Justify's per-Belmont workouts. Very interesting!

There is a good enough chance to make a few bets on this one.

The only thing I got out of that is that AP is the better mover.

Tune in June 9th -- history might be made. Only 12 TC winners in almost 100 years. One of the hardest things to accomplish in sport -- especially in this era.

For years we went to the Belmont Stakes. My son was 6 when he first started picking the winner. Haven't been there in some time. I think Justify is the real deal, and if he has a decent track, no one will keep up with him.

But that's the fun of horse racing, ya never know!

What I want to know and what I expect is highly likely is this: If the last race is not in mud does everything change?

Dont quote me or nothing because I am barely paying attention, but I thought I saw that the first two were run in mud.

WOW very interesting!!
I love AP and I have to admit I haven't paid very much attention to who is in it this year. Justify does have an interesting pedigree.

They were. I think he's won on a fast track so that is not an issue. The 1 1/2 distance might be, though.

Indeed he does. His damsire Ghostzapper was one of my favorite horses of the modern era. He was one of the few sprinters who could also handle distance. We'll see next week if Justify inherited that combination from him.

I loved AP but never really warmed to him in a way that I did others. I'm also not Bob Baffert's biggest fan and am not anxious to see him repeat the TC. I know, I'm bad!

I feel the same way though on a personal level, I really do like Baffert. He is truly a good guy. What I don't like are the super trainers who have a zillion horses in their barns -- Fletcher and Assmussen to name a couple.

Pletcher?

i don't like Assmussen for a lot of reasons.

No horse is unbeatable, although a few remain unbeaten.

I will bet mid range odds horses more often than odds on favorites. But I don't make my living betting horses either.
