I think I live in one of the best, Detroit. Of course the Lions suck, but the Red Wings were the Patriots of Hockey for several years when Yzerman played. And the Tigers are hot and cold, but at least the owner spent a lot of money on good players before he died recently. The Pistons suck now but we've had the Bad Boys and Going To Work Pistons championship teams which were a blast to watch. We have UofM, which of course recently played in the basketball championship game and has a legendary football team with an intriguing coach, and MSU with a consistently great basketball team and a pretty good football team.

As far as worst, I don't know, was really interested in what you all may think though.

Worst:
Miami, Tampa Bay, Orlando
Atlanta
Oakland

These fans are the definition of milk toast fans. They don't even come when their team wins.

I heard that about Florida teams, but the Raiders?

In Miami, and Florida, there's the beach year round. It's a tourist town. Miami beach. Coconut grove. Key Biscayne. The Everglades. The Keys. There's just too much to do compared to a sweaty stadium with overpriced beer. If it was a frozen flyover state, sure, everyone does sports. In Wisconsin, where the choice is cheese with ice or football with ice, they choose football, cheese and ice. What else are they gonna do?

It's funny anyone ascribes traits to fans and not location.

Oakland is a hell hole but I want to seperate San Francisco from Oakland.

Detroit isn't any better, that doesn't make it a bad sports town. Golden State Warriors play in Oakland.

Does the weather suck in Dallas?

Not to derail your thread, but how do you manage to live in Detroit? I've never been there, but pictures I've seen make it look like Aleppo West.

Not true of Raiders fans, but kind of true for A's fans. The situation with the A's is different though, since the owners of the team team haven't put any effort into winning since they bought it.

Worse than that is the Warriors though, who played in Oakland since they started. There were no Warriors fans period, until they got good recently.

I'm not from there, but I always figured Philadelphia was the best sports town. First off, there's the Flyers - if there was ever a team that embodied the spirit of a city, I'd say it has to be the Flyers. Win, lose or tie, Philly lives and dies with their Flyers. Don't believe me? Try wearing another Jersey on Broad St. on game night. Then there's the Phillies.... when I think about how many decades they sucked so badly before they finally won it all, it's a miracle they had any fans at all. But Philly was always fanatical about their Phillies, no matter how bad they got. I could go on and on about the Eagles and the 76'ers.

But you know what really clinches Philly for me? Big 5 College Basketball. Ever want to see how intense spectator sports can get? Try going to a Big 5 game at the Palestra. La Salle, Temple, St. Joe's, Penn, and, of course, this year's newly-crowned NCAA champion Villanova. Every game between any of those 5 is an instant classic.

So Philly is my vote for best.

Worst - without a doubt - is Los Angeles. I know traffic sucks, but you don't leave a perfectly good game at halftime....why even bother going in the first place?

I can only go by the cities I have lived in.

Chicago: The best!
San Diego: The worst!

The weather has a lot to do with my best and worst sports cities.

Seattle sports fans are pretty bad though. They basically ran the Sonics out of town due to wanting more money in art museums and the liberal arts.

It was the complete opposite response in Sacremento.

Wow! That is bad!!!

San Diego Chargers are now the LA Chargers---need I say more?

You like the weather in Chicago, but NOT San Diego? Me not understand!

LOL :) Yes, that must be why Seattle football fans scare the heck out of opposing teams. Centurylink field is notorious for it's excellent home field advantage.

We only have a semi-pro hockey team (the T-birds) but they have a pretty good fan base. Our LFL (female football team), The Mist have been to the legends cup (their superbowl) three years in a row and have won the national title 2 out of the last 3.

I do miss the Sonics, though.

Oakland is awesome, A's fans are a blast, saw many a game there.

You left out the Sounders, the MLS team with the highest average attendance in the league. Great team, great fans.

Had they only made it a few more years the techies would have rubbed some serious love on them....a overwhelmingly black league in a liberal city, celebrity driven....

I live in the suburbs, or Metro Detroit. There are a couple of spots in the city that are actually really nice but the majority of course aren't. A person in Detroit (from my experience) doesn't tell you if they live in a good or bad neighborhood, they'll usually tell you if they live on a good or bad block. Around the block could be much worse.

That's just not true - it's more like North Aleppo...

How do you know if you have never been there. The city is being redeveloped and many good things are happening
