Tiger Woods 2018

This thread may be short lived. For the first time in forever, Tiger has a share of the lead heading into the weekend of a golf tournament.

Tiger Woods tied atop leaderboard after second-round 68 at Valspar | Golfweek

He's already surprised me. Not so much with his play, but more so his attitude and generally newfound cordialness. I honestly thought he was toast and on his way to Mike Tysonville. Hell, I do not even care if he wins. I just want to see him play well and continue not being an asshole.

I hope this thread has legs, and we're talking positively about Tiger for the next four or five months.

I wasn't watching this golf tournament and my husband yelled at me to tell me how well Tiger was doing. Made me happy and paid attention to how it ended. Great to see Tiger doing well in this tournament and hope it continues. Hated to see him fall and excited to see him back up.

Don't blame the media for this. When Tiger is playing well and at the top of the leader-board in a Golf Major people are interested.

Love him or hate him he's a draw, both on TV and at the event.

You are right.. I don't hardly watch golf, But when he was on top years ago, And If he starts winning again, I will start watching again,, I don't know what the reason is,, He is just fun to watch.

I don't love him or hate him. What I hate is relentless, obsessive coverage of a golfer who may or may not be in the top 25.
I'm not one of those who is attracted to a strong favorite or a dynasty in sports. I like wide open competition with unforeseeable outcomes. I liked the PGA tour better after Tiger left.

Interesting to me is seeing how someone can totally miss the story and fail to understand why it's compelling. That's what is bizarre.

Hint: America loves a comeback. And, considering the depths to which he sank over the past ten years, Tiger's is the ultimate comeback.

My point is that a player who may or may not be in the top 25 should not be the story.

6 under par in the final round; 66, 66 and 64 in the final three.

Sorry you missed the story. America didn't.

Finished second. Yawn. Just like hundreds of other golfers over the years. I bear him no ill will; I just prefer to focus on those who actually win.

The real story is that Koepka has two majors this year.

Considering Tiger wasn't making cuts or even participating in Majors over the past 5-plus years, it's Koepka who is just another guy on the tour this week. Bad timing on his part perhaps. Or, maybe a nice break since it allows him to sneak under the radar with three quick major victories and no crazy media crap like what Tiger had to deal with back when he first began racking up multiple majors per year.

Time will tell. But, I suggest enjoying the Tiger ride. It won't last. He's way past his prime. But, this weekend, we saw a glimpse of what could have been.

i would bet yesterdays ratings for the PGA event were one of the highest in 5-10 years

and Tiger is the reason

love him or hate him, he is a very unique personality....and the viewers will watch him

Yep. The Sunday ratings was the highest since 2009.

We'll again not the media's fault. Yesterday's TV ratings were the best for a Sunday since 2009. People tuned in because of Tiger. No one forced them to watch.

Tiger was the lead trend on Twitter all afternoon. He blew away Omarosa, all the Sunday political shows and the alt-Right parade.

not bad....you can start calling me Kreskin

lol

for some that will age me....

They were talking about Woods and the TV ratings on WFAN. They were talking about what we're talking about here. Tiger was in the mix on Sunday so the TV ratings were sky high.

You nailed it.

Did anyone else see Brooks wife oogling Tiger? Or did anyone see Tiger tap his gf's butt?

Also that lady that works and does interviews for the pga amanda balionis. She looks exactly like Tiger woods ex-wife. That interview with Tiger was awkward. That t-shirt she wore was extremely inappropriate. I am not complaining but the the pga is clearly selling more than golf.

Okay....

I think my point is women with big breasts typically do not participate in golf because it alters their swing greatly. They can certainly get in the way.

So IMO the golf broadcaster Amanda Balionis shouldn't be wearing these tight golf shirts because a) typically girls with big breasts don't wear these shirts in a work setting and b) they can be distracting to the male golfers.

I am not necessarily complaining but as a golfer, I would be distracted. That kind of shirt is wildly inappropriate especially at a setting like the Bellerive Country Club.

Good point, but personalities dont usually show during the game though. I'm not quite sure why Tiger is still so appealing these days.

Do I dare believe? Was it not just three months ago that he was nowhere, either in golf nor anywhere else?

His second second in ten years, never winning anything, he was no where near his old self.

I mostly feel like Calamity.

I think he's still appealing these days because he fell off so fast, he went from being a golfer who toyed with his opponents, they seemed to actually fear him, and he should have won 25 Majors... To a also ran overnight. AND he lost everything, his father, his wife, his kids. Those mug shot pictures? He looked homeless.

Now? He's not all the way back, father time will make sure of that. BUT he looks in shape now, his personality seems softer. I think now many golf fans would like to see him win at least 1 more Major.

mostly...because we are are human beings

we understand failure....we can see with our own eyes just how far he had fallen

and we love comeback stories....

we love people who overcome mistakes who make it to the top

we love seeing underdogs win.....and we love seeing our once champions rise from the dust bins to once again raise the trophy

that is human spirit....that is the never quit attitude....

i dont know if he will win another major....i doubted it sincerely a few years ago.....i thought he was toast

now....he may have a chance at # 15

Exactly. I remember pulling so hard for John Daly to get through the alcoholic shakes he had on the course on live TV when he tried to quit cold turkey.

big big john....

and his plaid pants....

something about him that most people could relate to....just a regular guy who could hit a gold ball a country mile

just dont ask him which way it was going

lol...brings back memories

Watching his swing... you could almost see how he put fat to work and put it behind the ball for extra momentum. It was weird and cool at the same time. He surely could crush that ball.
