[W:549] Nfl 2018

I have been racking my brain about the Saints situation. Maybe it is time for a Video Assistant Referee to be added to the referee team for matches like the wild card weekend, the divisional games and the Superbowl. A video referee who can warn the referee when a gross negligence has occurred on the side of the referees and that he says that the head referee needs to take a look for himself.

Now this should not be done for small things that can just be a differing opinion about what is a foul and what is not when it is 1st and 10 on the 50 yard line on deep in your own territory. This should be done if it has game altering possibilities like that happened with the Saints and the missed blatant foul. And that should be the determination of when the VAR should interfere, in cases of missed blatant fouls with huge consequences. He should be in the ear of the head referee and as soon as something like this happens, the referee should throw a flag (a special one, maybe one who is red and yellow) which would indicate that the VAR has seen something that he needs to make a personal determination about.

And unlike in soccer that time often is available, the play usually takes 20 seconds or so to start again and as the kicking team ran on the field the referee could have easily stopped the clock and had a look.

It is an imperfect solution, I know, some teams will benefit more than others but at least blatant fouls with such massive consequences may be avoided.

Belichick is known for exploiting the weakness of the opponent. what will that be against the rams?

if McVey uses the same approach, i would assume the effort will be to give Brady little time and room to throw and/or running passing routes over the top

Hopefully this will be a great SuperBowl game.

Both teams coming into the SuperBowl did not blow out their opponents in the division championship games. Having to go into overtime shows that with a bit of the right person in the right place at the right time could of resulted in two entirely different teams in the SB. This could have very well been the Saints vs Chiefs.

I do not forsee any blowout out in the SB.

My prediction 31-28 . The winner: Don't have a clue.

This is just getting sad.....
Andy Reid: Ford wasn’t warned he was offside
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Monday that he wasn’t completely satisfied with how officials handled Ford on the pivotal penalty.
“Normally, you’re warned and the coach is warned if somebody is doing that before they throw it in a game of that magnitude,” Reid told reporters. “But they did. And he didn’t waste any time in doing it.
“He didn’t wait until the interception to throw it. He had his hand on his flag right from the get go, and he saw it from his angle, and he thought it was the call.”

Tony Romo was very good quarterback; he’s become great TV analyst

The Rams won Sunday. The Patriots won Sunday. Tony Romo won Sunday.

The former Cowboys quarterback turned CBS analyst continues to trend on Twitter for his performance calling the AFC Championship Game. Everyone took notice of his ability to predict plays before they happened, even MLB free agent Bryce Harper.

“Confirmed: Just called Tony Romo to see where I’m going to play next year. #YoureAWizardTony,” Harper wrote.

Romo was a very good NFL quarterback in his 13 seasons. He is a Hall of Fame broadcaster already, the best in the business in his second season in his second career.

In 13 days, Romo makes his Super Bowl debut when he will have an even bigger audience hanging on his every prediction.

On Sunday, Romo’s prescience included Tom Brady‘s pass to Rob Gronkowski for a 25-yard gain with 42 seconds remaining. He told Richard Deitsch of The Athletic that his analysis begins with protection of the quarterback.

“I don’t pretend to have all the answers,” Romo told Deitsch. “I do think in some ways I have studied the game for 20 years and, at my core, I have tried to improve and get better at football. I think that has really helped me do this job, where I just know a lot of stuff that I have thought about over the years. It gives you a history. If you study a new language, you are just better at it 20 years later than you are year one. So I have a lot of things to draw back on that have happened within games, or that I have thought about after a game that we should have done better. It is fun for me to get beneath football.

“As far as the broadcasting aspect of it, I think at the core it is nothing more than my ability to get you the viewer to care about this play, this game, and why is this important. Why is this really special with this coach schematically? Why did this quarterback protect this play? It’s like, can I get you to care about my story of my buddy who was drinking the other night? Do you care about the story I am about to tell? You are trying to get people to care about things.”

Cowboys fan have called for their favorite team to hire Romo for Dallas’ offensive coordinator vacancy since last week when the Cowboys fired Scott Linehan. Romo wasn’t asked about his interest in going into coaching, but he told Deitsch that he fielded two offers in the offseason and another earlier this season to return as a quarterback.

“I envision probably doing this a long time,” Romo said of his current job.

That’s good because he’s even better at what he does now than what he did previously. Fans of the other NFC East teams even would agree with that.

I remember when in the booth Hank Stram had a knack for calling the plays before they happened too.

This must be a tough one for the people of St Louis. Does anyone know if they still follow the team or are the majority of people angry?

Chiefs fans are pointing lasers at Brady's face durimg the game.... no media coverage at all.

The bias against the Patriots continues...

If this had been at Gillette the outcry on here would have taken up pages. People were angry enough when fans poured beer on the woman beater Hill.

This was all over the news this morning. I saw it on Google, Yahoo, everywhere.

But yeah.. Poor Pats.

Total bull****. It was all over the news. WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Shining a laser is distasteful, it is disturbing and most importantly it is unsportsmanlike conduct and it should be frowned upon no matter who the victim is. I know it is popular to hate against the Patriots and especially Brady but as someone here has already stated, if a Patriot fan would have done that there would be a lot of hatred towards the Patriots themselves. I hope the catch the idiot, ban him for 10 years from Chiefs matches and give him a nice big fine.

Just to be sure, I do not hold this in any way shape against the Chiefs. They seem a great team with great fans except for that one idiot that should not be allowed to stand side by side with real Chiefs fans.

Rams 34-30 ....Pats miss a 2 pt. conversion attempt late in the game.

Might have been a dissident Pats fan upset by the Garoppolo trade.

Fans are always trying to do what they can to slant the game their way.

Throwing anything onto the field is totally unacceptable That would include shining a laser at players
Have mixed feeling about the fans in the endzone who try and distract the kicker by waving ribbons and posters.

You can train for people waving ribbons and posters, you cannot train/prepare for people shining stuff in your face or throwing stuff at you. There is a difference between enthusiastic fans and people trying to throw stuff at players/shining tasers.

You know who was in the stands during the KC/NE game? This guy....

Now...I aint sayin...but I'd check his pockets for a green laser.

Belicheck will run it down the Rams throats, the Pats are VERY balanced. This year they are a run first team and use the pass to keep the defense honest. There is no real one way to beat them on defense, except to play fundamentally sound defense and execute well. Bend a little but don't break. Use blitzes occasionally and disguise them well. What will tell is if they can get to Brady fast enough on passing downs with their base defense. If they have to blitz then Brady will burn them. The Pats seem to be an eclectic mix of old school football with just a bit of the new school to spice things up.

During PTI this evening they also talked about him, and how if he had been a real man he would have made a short video or did a public announcement about what happened Sunday and how the league is going to look into making sure this does not happen again.

Maybe he was 'invested'....

This isnt the first time the lasers have been used. Im not sure if there is a filter they can use that would help them triangulate a position and then nail the user to a cross.

It is of course less bad than using it to shine at pilots who are trying to land, but it is still a disgusting use of the laser pen. It is also unbelievable to realize how much he makes and when the sport is in crisis, life after the missed call, he does not show leadership towards his customer base/the fans.
