[W:549] Nfl 2018

Re: Nfl 2018

True, TV viewership is down which may affect TV ads. But maybe the market will change to other forms of profit-making from other platforms. See, now professional sports gambling is being authorized. This alone will be a huge bonus for the NFL, and people who weren't interested in certain games will now watch because they have a bet going.

I'm not so sure that the league will be any less profitable resulting in smaller player contracts.

Like someone here said, a mid-tier franchise, the Panthers, just got bought cash for a record-breaking number, by none other than a savvy hedge fund founder and investor. Something tells me that he thinks he'll make a bundle.

How much legal business do you think will be drawn off from the bookmakers?

BTW the major sports leagues fought against legal gambling for years. Including in the NFL. So I don't know if that's going to be a boom or a bust.

Re: Nfl 2018

In the 70s the Yankees were bought for 10 mil. Now they're worth billions, even though baseball viewership and popularity is way down from the 70s. So again 1 really has nothing to do with the other.

The stadiums alone are worth a billion or so. Especially when these savvy owners get the states and municipalities to pay for them. Lol

I can't totally explain it. The Marlins got sold for a whole bunch of money. There's 500 people at some of their games. They sure as hell don't make a profit. But they got a nice shiny new stadium that the city pay for it. and they got sold for a bunch of money
Not the case of the Carolina Panthers' stadium, which was built with money from permanent seat licenses and sponsorship from private businesses. Tax payer's money was not used to build the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Apparently the predictions are that the NFL's revenue will double or triple with the new gambling laws.

This time the NFL supported it.

Re: Nfl 2018

rumor is Terrell Owens will not attend his own HOF speech because he is too broke to fly his family and friends into Canton and none of his former teams wants to foot the bill.

I never liked the fact that T.O. the jerk got elected.

He was born a martyr. He will never change. I feel sad for him. It doesn't sound like he has a strong support system.

[emphasis added by bubba]
his choice to not attend because he cannot afford the expense of a possee
bet he could find a ticket for one to get there

Re: Nfl 2018

here is the article:

For the Hall of Famer, induction weekend can be an expensive proposition, with travel and lodging for multiple family members and friends, and the cost of a party commemorating the honor. As one source explained it, most Hall of Famers get financial support from the team with which they are most associated, or possibly from a sponsor.

Given that Owens played for so many teams — and routinely nuked the bridge back to each one — it’s possible that Owens realized during his initial visit to Canton that: (1) Hall of Fame weekend won’t be cheap; and (2) the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys, Bills, and/or Bengals won’t be chipping in to cover the tab.

If Owens can instead persuade another network to televise an induction party, at which Owens would deliver his speech, the network would foot the bill for the event. And Owens would have a one-man Hall of Fame party that potentially will upstage the official enshrinement of Owens and seven others.

Re: Nfl 2018

His stats do support his election to the HoF but his behavior does not. I'd have preferred to see the latter counting for something. I don't approve of his election. Such a toxic person IMHO should not be getting accolades. One would want to encourage sportsmanship with this kind of honor, instead of rewarding behavior that is anything but sportsmanlike. Sure, there are players who did much worse (rapists, wife beaters, even murderers) but two wrongs don't make a right.

Re: Nfl 2018

It looks like the NFL will suspend Jameis Winston for 3 games. This is no surprise. This man was a dirtbag in college. The focus should be trading Winston and drafting a QB.

Re: Nfl 2018

The receiver called Cowboys owner Jerry Jones "clueless" and put blame for his release on Dallas center Travis Frederick and linebacker Sean Lee, whom he called a "snake."

Dez Bryant goes off on Dallas Cowboys front office, players

Jerry Jones is not clueless Dez, he's just an incompetent GM that refuses to allow a competent GM to run his team, most likely due to his ego.

Re: Nfl 2018

Ya Tom Brady and his love handles looks like a guy that dopes.

One of the dumbest comments you have ever made. That's saying a lot.

Older players often use steroids to help heal faster. Healing includes recovering from the rigors of the game. It doesn't have to be specific to a particular injury.

Like I said, your comments were ignorant.
