IMO, you have to consider:

The NBA is littered with European basketball player yet few white American basketball players. What I think the problem with the NBA and basketball in High School and College is that these players have more focused on pure athletic ability rather than skill-set. In Europe, basketball is more focused on developing a players skill-set rather than in America, where players are more focused on dunking, trick shots, fancy passes, etc..

Is it a coincidence that all of the white players (like 5) in the NBA can shoot 3-pointers?

Basketball imo is more attractive for young athletes that want to showcase their pure athletic ability whereas a sport like MLB showcases your skillset.

Black people don't have skillsets?

"Fancy passes"? What's next, basketball is for "showy" people? Wait, you did claim that, didn't you.

Racism couched in a "sports analysis", cute.

LOL, what? Black basketball players don't have any skillsets? Lebron doesn't have any skillsets? Chris Paul doesn't have any skillsets? Is that what you're saying? How very racist of you.

I never said black basketball players don't have any skillsets. I said the NBA is a game that showcases your athletic ability more so than your skillset.

It is funny, people are taking my post as an offense as blacks not having any skillset rather than an attack against whites lacking athletic ability.

???

"Fancy passes" What is a "Fancy Pass"? I mean, we still have the law of physics to obey when considering how a basketball gets from player A to player B.

Or did you mean Fancy Pants? Yes, I think that is what he meant. Fancy Pants.

Is your obsession with race and your off the wall question concerning white guys in the NBA a coincidence?

LOL! Not bloody likely.

Would his team prefer to have Boban Marjanovic or DeMarcus Cousins ?

From players that actually play the game:

JJ Redick:

It does seem there are less and less white Americans. I’d like to know with [Kirk] Hinrich and Steve Blake out this year, how many white guards are there this year in the NBA? Are there even five? If you’re 6-feet-10 inches, can walk, are skilled and can chew gum and all that, defend the rim, you’ll have a job. It doesn’t matter what your skin color is. You’ll have a job.

Chandler Parsons:

The NBA is a collection of some of the most athletic guys in the world. And white guys just aren’t that athletic.

He’ll be wanking to TB12 in a bit......

Of course not. The intention of this thread is very obvious.

So you have no problem with me saying white players simply lack athletic ability but get defensive when I say basketball is more of a showcase on athletic ability?

It would have been interesting to see these players in the NBA display their skill sets in the NFL or MLB, since the vast majority of them were 3 or 4 sport superstars in high school, with some of them playing two sports in college; plus their 2nd full-time job of being a college student; my dear college student !!

Fancy passes

But he’s white so I guess it doesn’t count

Notice:

Nobody in this thread has given a reason/theory for why the NBA has so few white players in the league.

I asked a question, nobody has even attempted to answer the question.

That's great.

For a while in the 90's yes, NBA teams were drafting players mainly based on their athletic ability.

Regarding unofficial, schoolyard/neighborhood activities in the developmental years (important early development), poor people play soccer and basketball as children. Middle class and rich people play baseball and football. That's because of the equipment required and the size of the field required. Poor kids can afford, collectively, a ball and a net. They can't afford for everyone to buy a glove, or everyone to enroll in a program with pads. Black people are disproportionately poor.

This is also part of the reason why soccer is so popular in poor countries. It's what kids can afford to play.

Any one who watches basketball is watching an inferior sport anyway. You want skillsets, you got to look to hockey. All other sports are inferior.

And no, NASCAR is not a sport...

Hockey apparently even takes skill to watch. Two of my ex gf's who liked sports could not follow the game. One even said she could not follow the puck. :doh

Boy, didn't you just engage in a new form of dog-whistles! Actually, it's not a new form - I used the same line of attack in racist jokes a long, long time ago. And when it comes to the three-pointers, that's not a coincidence since there basketball is much more popular in the inner city, so the competition among blacks is much tougher, and so it's usually the bigger and stronger and faster who tend to make it...and the whites who make it from the 'burbs tend to be somewhat less physically-imposing, so we wind up learning better how to shoot from a distance. It isn't a matter of race, but more of socioeconomic background. And it's not just basketball - why do you think Kenyans are so good at marathons? They grow up at a higher elevation, and the competition between themselves is to a significantly greater degree than most marathoners face. Location and socioeconomic background - NOT race.

Here's a clue: a fat guy can play baseball (see the 25 greatest fat baseball players of all time) - all he needs to do these days is hit that baseball where they ain't at least one third of the time, and he's considered a great player even if all he is, is a designated hitter. Put that same guy on the hardwood...and he's toast.

Don't get me wrong - baseball's my favorite sport. It really is. But I also know that basketball requires every bit as much skill, more aggression, and a heckuva lot more physicality than baseball.

So.... How many Olympic gold medals have the Europeans won in basketball?
