My Orioles do not look like they will be worth watching, but I will watch them anyway, and be disappointed as usual.

^^^^ is that the Japanese kid they're comparing to Babe Ruth??

No, he is a pitcher and an outfielder. He wants to play both positions in the major leagues. On days when he isn't pitching, he wants to play in the field. I don't know how good a fielder he is. So the talk is he should sign with an American League team, that way he can DH on the days he isn't pitching. Actually on the days he is pitching, there would be no need for a DH if this guy is as good a hitter as some suspect.

I hate the DH but can you stay in as the DH if you come out as the pitcher?

If he does go the AL that means the Jays will be out of the running since they cant compete with the Sox and Yankees

I’m posting this just so I have a cool picture to look at when I check out the threads. Reminds me of Kenny Powers.

Just to be a dick, now you have to see this when you’re browsing.

Meet Don Mossi, ugliest baseball player of all time.

He hasn’t fielded since 2014 or 15, I think. But he’s apparently a decent OF.

I hate you! But I kind of like you at the same time! That will give me a laugh every time, for sure!

I think I was wrong about that. Here's what I googled: Rule 6.10 of the "official rules" of Major League baseball states that the option of letting the starting pitcher hit is allowable, but he is still designated as pitcher and NOT as DH. And if this option is exercised, to let the pitcher bat instead of using a DH, the team may not use the DH position at a later time in the game...if the pitcher is taken out, he must be replaced with another pitcher (although, of course, a pinch hitter can still be used in the interim once he is taken out). Once any player is removed from a game, he is not allowed back in.

I think I got my college and major league rules mixed up.

The way I understand it watching the MLB Network is this guy falls under special rules. I didn't write it down, but all any club can offer him is 3 million and I think that was a signing bonus. Something to do with the new rules in place. I'm sure others can expand. MLB Network was discussing this guy, he is supposed to choose a team which will allow him to both pitch and hit, play in the field. They got into it hot and heavy, but I was baby sitting the grand kids which made my mind wonder.

Because this guy wants to do both, they sort of ruled out the NL. Now if an NL team allows him to play in the field when he isn't pitching, I would think that team would be in the running. They kept saying it isn't about the money due to the 3 million limit, but where Otani wants to play. It also put trading and free agent acquisition basically on hold until around Christmas when supposedly Otani must make up his mind. It's a wait and see game.

I thought it was something like that, I didn't google. I guess you hope he doesn't get shelled.

No one on the MLB network addressed his fielding. Hot Stove or MLB Tonight. Just his hitting which they state he is pretty good at and of course pitching.

He's going to be strictly a dh/pitcher. That's a bit too much to expect him to pitch, hit and field.

But if you were Otani, would you rather play in a world class city like New York or Toronto (or even Boston)??

He will not be a DH and pitcher in MLB. When someone pays him multi-millions, they will expect him to excel at one position. No MLB team is going to pay big money for a “jack of all trades” player.

Seattle.

That’s where Japanese players like to go.

He might consider other West Coast teams, like the Dodgers, who originally drafted him.

But he probably wants to win, too...which rules out the Yankees.

I wasn't thinking. But there has been some pretty good darn hitting pitchers in the past, pre-DH. Earl Wilson, Warren Spahn and Bob Lemon come to mind. I seen all three play especially Spahn. He would give you 250-300 plus innings every year and hit. He even hit .333 one year and had several years of 4 homers and 9 seasons of double digits RBI's. Not bad for a pitcher.

I always been a Braves fan even when they were in Boston and Milwaukee. Atlanta had a AA Southern League team, the Crackers where were owned and operated by the Braves.
