The league isn’t bound by the same burden of proof as the criminal justice system. Goodell handed Elliott a six-game suspension, which is the baseline for a first offender under the league’s policy. And Jerry Jones wasn’t happy, according to Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham in an article that will appear in the Dec. 4 issue of ESPN The Magazine.

"I'm gonna come after you with everything I have," Jones said. "If you think Bob Kraft came after you hard [for Deflategate], Bob Kraft is a p---y compared to what I'm going to do."

All I got to say is burn it down, Jerry!

Jerry is a shrewd businessman with a big picture mentality. He and many owners know that this league is headed towards a steep downturn with Goodell as the commissioner.

Oh goody, thanks for the thread. I wanted to talk about this issue.
NFL Owners' Threat To Sue Jerry Jones Is Empty Forbes, Nov 16, 2017

Other NFL team owners are reportedly considering a lawsuit that could force him out as owner of the Dallas Cowboys. The other owners claim that, by hiring super-lawyer David Boies and threatening to sue the league over Commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract negotiations, Jones is engaging in conduct harmful to the NFL.

There will be no suit by the owners.
...
The owners know how tough Jones can be, and the thought of a long and very messy suit surely doesn't appeal to any of them.
...

It doesn't seem the other owners are in step with Jones.

It doesn't seem the other owners are in step with Jones.

In the nfl you have 6 power owners that run the league essentially

Kraft
Jones
Rooney family
Mara family
Hunt family
Bob McNair

If jones can the support of these 5 owners he will get the rest of them imo.

The owners voted 32-0 to let the committee negotiate a new deal with Goddell.

Do your homework. For once.

That might be past tense.

We might be about to find out.

A lot has changed since then.

Yeah, and Jones is out of step with the rest of the League on this high profile issue.
Does Jerry Jones have power to bench Cowboys who 'disrespect’ flag? What the law, NFL policy say
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Sunday night that players who disrespect the flag during the national anthem won't be allowed to play.
...
By NFL policy, and legally, can Jones enforce his hardline stance?
...
SportsDay talked with local attorney Chad Baruch, who focuses on constitutional and appellate law, about the protests and constitutional rights for such workplace issues. Baruch has extensive experience arguing and teaching First Amendment issues, including writing a Supreme Court brief on behalf of high-profile rap artists and university professors on First Amendment issues.

1. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Sunday that any player who disrespects the flag won't play in Cowboys games. What are the legal ramifications to a statement like that?

Probably none. He's a private employer so he's free to make any rules he wants that infringe on free speech. He's totally unconstrained legally.

It's probably not the smartest thing to do because the first time someone like Dak Prescott or Zeke Elliott takes a knee and he doesn't sit them, he'll look foolish.
...
5. How about if you were giving advice to the players or NFLPA?

Colin Kaepernick is a cautionary tale. This is a young man who, to his credit, exercised his conscience and lost employment and has no legal recourse. So I'd tell them to think long and hard over whether you want to make this move. Your livelihood is at risk.
...

Also Jones will have to keep paying the player's contract.

NFL problems are hilarious, and they wonder why viewership is down.

There's not a chance in hell the Rooney family, the class of the NFL, will side with another owner suing the league they helped build. Generally speaking, when the leak administers a penalty to the Steelers, as they've done several times, the Rooneys on down accept the punishment and move on. The Rooneys are team players who know that the collective is stronger and more important than any individual. Jones attracts the league's reprobates, the Rooneys don't.

Some folks just plain buy their own bull****.

And if IIRC 1 or 2 Mara's are married to Rooney's. So the families are pretty close. Both families have been in the NFL forever, neither likes rocking the NFL boat.

Mara's, Rooney's, and Blank.. 3 of the big boys in the NFL. None seem to be fans of Jones right now either. .. I don't see Jerry with too many friends.

I doubt it if Kraft liked Jerry calling him a ***** and being told to 'take his medicine' during the deflategate BS either.

I guess when Jerry counted again he didn't have those 17 other owners in his corner. This fight probably isn't over, but the suit is.

Jerry Jones Calls Off Threat to Sue N.F.L. Over Goodell Contract

Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys’ owner, has ended his threat to sue the N.F.L. and the six owners on the league’s compensation committee who are negotiating a contract extension for Commissioner Roger Goodell, ending one of the league’s most contentious internal standoffs in recent years.

In a letter sent Tuesday to Arthur Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons who is also the chairman of the compensation committee, Jones said that he had threatened to sue because he did not feel the committee understood his demand that all owners — not just those on the committee — have “a voice in approving the terms” of Goodell’s contract extension.

Now that the compensation committee “is receiving valuable feedback from a number of owners,” Jones said, he is “standing down from my threat of litigation against the committee.”

Jones’s threat to sue the owners nearly three weeks ago precipitated a rancorous debate among the owners, who, despite their differences and sometimes sizable egos, manage to settle most of their disputes behind closed doors through a well-established system of committees and private meetings.
