On Wednesday, Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer asked Newton this question during a media session: "I know you take a lot of pride in seeing your receivers play well. Devin Funchess has seemed to really embrace the physicality of his routes and getting those extra yards. Does that give you a little bit of enjoyment to see him kind of truck-sticking people out there?"

As soon as Rodrigue said the word "routes," Newton smirked. Newton then said: "It's funny to hear a female talk about 'routes.' "

Newton's cavemanish comments will cost him money and possibly lead to a suspension. We live in a sensitive society and the fact he hasn't apologized yet may lead to a protest.

Regarding young men in general, they don’t fully mature in brain development until 25-26 or so, and the average are is 26.5 years. That goes along ways toward explaining much of this. I saw Cam’s interview, and even though he is 28 he came off as quite childish.

Ring a football player, does anyone actually think he uses the poll tested, societally massaged, politically correct answers? No.

This also plays into “Kneegate”, IMO. They are overpaid, undersocialized kids.

The damning video:

No, I read the quote. There’s no sound bite at the link.

It was certainly much worse with the actual sound. The reporter asked a pretty in-depth question, which was not what was quoted in the article and Cam laughed at her because she was a female asking a question about routes. It might not have been sexist but it was certainly rude and immature, no way we would have done that to a former NFL player.

Of course I dont know why Cam is making fun of women, if you look at how much he cries and the out ragoues wardrobes he wears, hes due to become a Caitlyn any day now.

Where's all the defenders of speech at now?

The SJW's will devour you if you step out of line Cam...

I can’t believe this innocent remark led to this controversy. What a world.

Dannon targets a female demographic. They made a big mistake replacing John Stamos with Cam Newton.

I would suggest Newton apologize asap. It will just get worse for him if he doesn't. Newton doesn't have Trump's popularity or charisma to recover from this.

Considering all of the disgusting comments you've made about women, I'm surprised you don't agree with him.

You are one of the more consistent people. It was not directed at you. The nfl came out quickly and condemned his comments.

The funny thing is the Panthers didn't. They are a second-class organization. They actually lied and said that Newton apologized to the female reporter. He never did.

Remember, the Panthers didn't want to release Greg Hardy until they were essentially forced to cut bait.

Considering the position the owners have taken with the protests i dont see how they can say anything to cam without looking like hypocrites. Im waiting to see if they fine him too.

I don't see what the issue is. Its is kind of funny to hear a woman talk at that level of detail. Has this woman every run routes?

I will eschew Dannon and stick with my manly yogurt - Yoplait.

I eat Greek Gods Greek yogurt like a good misogynist. But, Cam needs to realize he lives in the 21st Century. What a putz.

Well stated! I'm not a fan of Cam Newton far from it but I'm even less of a fan of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS.
To many have lost their livelihoods because of a slip of the tongue, bashing those stunned in the spotlight
has become sickening!

I vaguely remember way back in the 50's when a All-American Maryland lineman received his trophy for being
the most valuable player in a college All-Star game & he became flustered. He thanked his coaches and teammates
and parents and wound up by saying, "But most of all I owe thanks to my dog." This caused a rustle of questioning
in the stands& TV and was never explained. My dad explained to me & my brother that they shouldn't force those
type of situations on young men! I agree!

John Thompson refused to allow the announcers to interview Patrick Ewing while Ewing was at Georgetown.
Some people aren't equipped to say what they intend to say in these type situations. Not saying Newton is not
savvy he probably is but the lesson will be learned by those afraid to lose sponsors. Eventually stars will
be less responsive to interviews & most of them will stop doing them, like 'Beast Mode."

Chick was doing her job. Mocking her was lame. Not the end of the world, but still a rather stupid move that will cost him money.

Yeah, if you read the comment(s) they really weren't that bad. But if you see the video and how he laughed at her and mocked her, he comes off sounding like a real a'hole. IMO that's what did him in.

But Newton often acts like and looks like an ass. So this is really no surprise.

At least he didn't call her mom a bitch.
