Well, needless to say I think the outcome was complete BS.

Now, I've been watching fights since Muhammed Ali was still in the ring. I'm a fan, and I would like to think I know a little about the sport.
I recorded this fight and watched it twice. I feel I'm being generous with calling the last round a draw. Personally, Canelo didn't bring it like he should have in the last round so I could just as easily make an argument that 12 went to GGG. But, I'll score it like it is.
How Byrd scored it 118 -110 is unfathomable. It makes me believe that Canelo's lack of urgency in the last round was due to an unnatural confidence.
The fight itself was good, but not great. Canelo would spend the first half of each round firing and landing hot shots that GGG just walked through. The one time it looked like GGG felt it turned out after replay to be nothing but a moment off balance due to a push off Canelo's glove. After the first half, Canelo went and sat in the corner on the ropes and waited for an opening that never came to deliver a big counter punch. This became rhythmic Round after round, you'd have a dust up in the middle followed by GGG stalking, a brief 15-20 secs when Canelo would lead then back to GGG taking over.
GGG didn't go to the body often. This I think to prevent a big counter from landing. He only landed 8 on the body. Not good. His jab however he worked like a sewing needle popping Canelo in his right eye something like 123 times. (not sure about the number, might be more but definitely well over 100.
GGG landed more overall.
Canelo landed more power shots. (Which mean squat when every single one is walked through like an open door.)
Chris Mannix tweeted 3 days before the fight to watch out for exactly what that scumbag Byrd ended up doing. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard it announced.
Anyway, in my 35+ years watching boxing I have always been told and believed that for the Champ not to get the win in a decision, the challenger had to show an unquestionable dominance throughout almost the entire fight. Canelo certainly did not do that.
Full disclosure, I've been a fan of GGG for quite a number of years, before he was even heard of by most I talked boxing with here in the states. I find it truly sad that the corruption in boxing and I do believe corruption was involved here, put a blotch on my man's record.
Now Golden Boy said that no problems from either camp arose when the judges and ref's were announced. Well, on Canelo's side we can see why.
As for GGG The man gave up all -- He took the low end of the purse, gave up first billing, had to come out first, HE'S THE GOD DAMN CHAMP!. All he has ever wanted is a quality bout, and he gave up all that was due him to get it, so of course he's not gonna kvetch about judges or officials because he didn't want to give Canelo ANY reason to back out and duck him AGAIN.
I was a fan of Canelo until this fight. As well as a fan of De La Hoya. Not anymore.
