Am I the only one thinking of how insensitive it is for UM to glorify something that is destroying and disrupting so many lives? It's like they think hurricanes are really cool or something.

Scrub a dub dub....let's get pure!

I grew up and still live in Florida. I have called the University of Miami Suntan U for so long, I forgot they call themselves The Hurricanes. Go figure. The citizens of Florida have a collectively low IQ. How else would Trump of carried 58 out of 67 counties?

I'm surprised it took 4 posts to get to a rant about Trump...

I just double checked... to make sure I posted in a forum called Debate Politics. Has pivoting become something you just noticed?

I'm just surprised that it took 4 posts for a thread in the sports forum to devolve into Trump rants. I had the over under on 2.5

I think we shoud get rid of all identfiying marks on everything other than a description of exactly what it is. No more state, county, city, street, neighborhood names that might offend someone, no more business names that might offend someone or cause them to be afraid (Target should change it's color scheme to a nice monotone gray to protect those with Erythrophobia). In fact, I think that we should do away with all names as well and just go to a simple number scheme for everyone.

Hey look everyone, it's a TDS post in a thread that has nothing to do with the President. Is ANYONE surprised???

Why don't we just excise words we don't like from the dictionary.

Better yet why don't we just burn all the dictionaries? How about we burn all books cause they might offend someone.

Truly, if you mistake my humor for a rant, you have not come even remotely close to capturing the essence of my posting style.

Peace to you, yours and all Texans deeply affected by disaster this past week. As for sports, the Astros have borrowed The Trop this week... with not too good of luck.

Yeah, I get it. All grins... as I think of people who don't look stupid, then you read what they write. Still shaking my head....Maybe disaster has affected their thinking?

Didn't seem to bother the people actually in the Miami-Dade metroplex when Hurricane Andrew kicked their collective butts, or the other 5 or so major hurricanes that have hit south Florida since Andrew.

Miami Vice was always my nickname for the U. Peruvian Flakes would fit pretty well too.

Jesus people are ******s these days. Seriously, where does this "should so and so change its name?" **** stop?

When the NHL first came to Atlanta the team was called 'the Flames'.
What were they thinking of?

TDS is a virulent disease that spreads like ebola if not contained with massive anti-viral protocols

At this point we had better hope Trump Derangement Syndrome is covered if health care insurance ever gets addressed.

Sports team names are usually intended to refer to destruction and disruption. That's the point.

Yeah, it was. Seems an odd thing to commemorate, though, the burning of your city.

I thought it was demeaning to name a sports team after something, like the Hurons or the Apaches. But here you're saying they name teams after things thought highly of. Huh.

It's always a good thing to honor W.T. Sherman.

Well... what the hell else are we supposed to do with our inevitable features of nature other than learn to live with them? Run and hide in fear?

If I do recall, my native Minnesota has local team names called both "the Tornadoes" and "the Blizzards."

Pick your geography, pick your nature. And from the Floridians I've met, hurricanes are just a part of life and a thing you learn to deal with if you wanna live there, like blizzards, or volcanoes, or earthquakes, or forest fires, or whatever nature you have where ever you are. Besides that, extreme weather is just as integral to our planet's self-regulation as less extreme weather. Some creatures do die in a forest fire, but without it, the entire forest would die. Extreme weather -- and indeed, death -- is part of life.

Let me know when you find a place that doesn't have nature, but I'm pretty sure this is just life and it's not gonna go away just because you try to treat it like Voldermort and act like if we don't utter its name, it will just go away.
