Is USC's horse mascot Traveler a racist symbol?

Really? A link to actual history from a professor at the Smithsonian Institute is nothing more than a platitude? You're too funny! :lamo Good thing I wasn't taking a drink when I read your post. ;)

Let's not get hysterical.

Your claims of others not supporting all free speech, or not supporting freedom and justice, or condoning violence as free speech are all platitudes, meaningless garbage. No one is calling for the name to be illegal. That is a strawman. No one is calling for violence. Your entire foundation is BS. You just enjoy arguing the issue like a Truther, with canned sources and ludicrous arguments. As I already noted, a strange hill to die on.

But hey, I'm not gonna ruin your fun. That's not what I'm here for. Go ahead and give us your lecture on why the name should remain, the extended version with spangled (or confederate) banner video at the end.

Wow, lots of strawmen at work here. Are you ever going to address the historical context that I provided you?

You didn't provide anything. Everyone knows wikipedia, and most have seen the blog crap that you're itching to shoot. Just do it, give us the anthem. Bust out those artificially preserved sources, hit us with a video, throw in some Americana and bring us to our feet for The Washington Redskins.

You go, dude. Get you some. For God, truth and the American way.

So, you didn't even attempt to look at the link. Got it.

The site I linked to is actually a paper written by Ives Goddard who is a curator emeritus and senior linguist at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution and works in the anthropology department. Pretty sure that his knowledge far surpasses those at Wikipedia, Youtube, or blogs. And his knowledge most definitely far surpasses yours on this subject. Your attempt at dismissal here is rather dismal and was very lazy. Want to try again?

You don't think Truthers pull this crap? I gotta read through the whole article to discover it doesn't claim what you imagine. Spare me. If you understand the material, just present it. I don't even know why I'm bothering. I tell you what:

I openly and brazenly belittle your position. I can safely hold this position eternally, absolutely secure in my triumph. You, on the other hand, are sure to lose. The name will be changed. It might be awhile, but it will happen. That's why I characterize your position as 'dying on a hill'. You have no chance to win, but you're gonna go flailing. At some point you might hoist a 50 onto someones back and fire away.

I'll note a manifestation of the circumstance you find yourself in: you cannot openly and brazenly belittle my position, eternally secure. My position is: the name is a race-based so-called positive stereotype and was a slur. You can sidestep that. You can ignore it. You can play semantics and absurdly glorify the importance of a sports team, but you can't belittle race-based stereotypes and slurs.

OMG!!! THE HORRORS OF READING AND LEARNING!!!! GOD HELP ME!!!! Sounds like my children.

Seriously dude. You have just flat out admitted that you're not going to read it because you believe that it won't say what I am claiming. One would think that one would want to prove such and as such read through it...at least long enough to "prove" that I was not representing it correctly. At least that's what most people do. Know what I think? I think that you did read enough to realize that it did say exactly what I am saying and instead of admitting that you are choosing to ignore it. In order to further your political agenda. Which in some circles is considered as partisan hackery. But hey, go ahead and keep on ignoring history that doesn't suit your political hackery. Due to it you certainly won't be changing my mind. Or anyone else's that know history. All you can do is keep preaching to low info voters and sheeple. Which effectively limits your ability to make any sort of change. But then again, so does historical facts.

You can play semantics and absurdly glorify the importance of a sports team, but you can't belittle race-based stereotypes and slurs.

I have no doubt that the name will fall into disuse. Everything does eventually. That's simply life. Whether or not its due to SJW idiocy neither one of us know the outcome. But I would bet, considering how much effort, time, and money that the Redskins have invested into keeping the name I doubt that it will be because of SJW idiocy. Most people are smarter than SJWs. ;)

SJW blah blah blah, rah rah rah. Does one get/use pom poms for that crap?

They should just name the horse "OJ".

I just sent the USC Black Student Assembly this:

Hello,

The idea that USC's Mascot Traveler is a racist symbol is ludicrous. The horse mascot symbolizes Ancient Rome.

Robert E. Lee was a Confederate general so by the logic extended in the article the name Robert is a symbol of racism as well.

Saphia Jackson and Ariana Seymore should focus their energy and challenge actual issues instead of inventing reasons to feel a victim.

You should be ashamed of yourself.
