Espn

They didn't fire anybody. They moved him to a different game, ostensibly to keep Twitter from having a field day with the unintentional irony.

Where on earth did you get "fired" from? Hell, the top story on your Bing (lol) search says as much. READ.

Has ESPN moved from a sports network to a political network...I mean firing a football announcer because his name is Robert Lee!

ESPN Fired Announcer Robert Lee Because His Name Sounds Like the Confederate General’s?

They didn't fire him, and if you'd have actually looked at your own link you'd know that. Lee was moved to a different broadcast of another game in another city. That is all.

I know 2 people already said this, but I'm guessing that some conservatives need to be told this three times...

No one was fired. They simply switched him from one game to another and he agreed with the switch.

Here's what ESPN boss John Skipper had to say:

“Given the amount of media attention being generated by one of the countless, routine decisions our local production teams make every day, I wanted to make sure you have the facts. There was never any concern - by anyone, at any level – that Robert Lee’s name would offend anyone watching the Charlottesville game.

Among our Charlotte production staff there was a question as to whether – in these divisive times — Robert’s assignment might create a distraction, or even worse, expose him to social hectoring and trolling. Since Robert was their primary concern, they consulted with him directly. He expressed some personal trepidation about the assignment and, when offered the chance to do the Youngstown State/Pitt game instead, opted for that game — in part because he lives in Albany and would be able to get home to his family on Saturday evening.

I’m disappointed that the good intentions of our Charlotte colleagues have been intentionally hijacked by someone with a personal agenda, and sincerely appreciate Robert’s personal input and professionalism throughout this episode.”

That's hilarious!!

"We never had any concern about the guy's name offending anyone but we moved him to a different game because there was concern that he'd get trolled."

Well, how'd that "hectoring and trolling" prophylactic work for you guys?:lamo

It's overboard, sure, but in an era where everything is a meme and there's entire websites devoted to tracking ESPN's every move, one can see why they'd err on the side of overcaution.

.

Considering how often conservatives on this board have difficulty with remedial reading comprehension, that's pretty good!

Yea, why on earth would ESPN think people would make this a big deal, meanwhile this is literally 1 of a dozen threads about how the sky is falling because a private company moving an employee from one assignment to another.

Every thread about this just goes to show how petty and whiny and petulant and childish the right wing is all the while they complain about how stupid the left is.

About as well as that an explosion isn't really an explosion line being sold down in Texas.
