2017 College Football Thread [W:49]

Kiffen just agreed to a ten year extension where he is at.

Meaningless in college ball. People sign extensions and move on within a year all the time.

However generally not right after signing a ten year extension. He is having success where he is at.

My guess is he leaves after next season. But, if the right offer came up now....I would not at all be surprised to see him take it.

My bet would be that he sticks around FAU for at least half of that contract extension.

I see nothing to be gained by Kiffen staying in Boca for 5 years. He'll be off to a big school in no time.

There is a possibility he realizes he's damaged his reputation by all the moving, and he needs to show he can build something. And if that were the case, what better place than Boca to stay a few years?

He's probably too young to have Boca patience. Now, me? I'd take a gig at a small school in Boca and stay until I die. :)

On that I agree. He started rehabilitating his career by taking a job with Alabama as Nick Saban's offensive coordinator. The two years he spent there helping to ease Bama into the fast huddle era went a long way towards that. After taking the head coaching job at FAU, I do not see him moving around hastily again. I think he will enjoy the success he is now having.

I probably would as well. if I were a college football head coach, I would be delighted to have steady success building a program anywhere.

One of the things that sort of turned me off of college ball was the disloyalty of the coaches. That applies to basketball as well. In my world---as in yours, I am sure---if you make a commitment to someone, you move mountains to make it happen. In college sports, coaches jump ship mid-contract all the damned time.

I do believe in honoring contracts...or anything I sign my name to.

I agree. At the very least, if a coach wants out of their contract, they shouldn’t be allowed to coach anywhere else until the length of their contract is expired. College basketball is even worse because not only are the coaches disloyal, but the good players only stay for one year. It is unwatchable, IMO.
