2017 College Football Thread [W:49]

Wish he would have performed in the 1st 4 games the way he has lately. I bet on him to win the Heisman

452848524-1 8/29/17 1:55am $10.00 $200.00 Pending 8/31/17 8:00pm Football NCAA Football Heisman Trophy Winner - Jarrett Stidham (QB Auburn) +2000*

I would bet that all auburn fans wish that not only he but the team in general had done as well in the first 4 games. It's a big step going from losing to the SEC team that was beat by Troy university to beating two teams ranked number 1 at the time.

Your grapes. They are sour. And bitter.

I don't even live in Michigan nor am I a Michigan fan... but when a Michigan receiver's jersey is clearly being tugged AND his arm is being held, that's definitely a penalty... the refs were completely blind to everything the Buckeye DBs were doing to Wolverine receivers.

Sometimes it just takes a person who has no bias in the game to see things for what they are and not ignore them because you root for the team.

At least we can now stop hearing about Notre Dame. Thank you Stanford!

Notre Dame been vastly overrated from the beginning... I mean, almost losing to Navy (who runs the same damn play over and over again on offense)?! That's just pathetic...

Badgers should be in the top 4 now.

SHOULD be... might get screwed because of their easier schedule, and because of Alabama's history and draw. Badgers should currently be in it along with Oklahoma, Clemson and Auburn, with Georgia and Miami being able to steal playoff spots depending on division championship game results.

The triple option is not the same play over and over. It is very confusing to defend.

Wow. The AP only dropped Miami to 7th after losing to an unranked team.

It really is the same play, you just don't know who's gonna run with it... And if you have a disciplined defense staying in their gaps, it's easy to defend... if they played against the WI defense for example, they wouldn't get 60yds of offense all game...

It's either a handoff up the gut, a qb keeper, or a toss to one of the two running backs... if you hold all those gaps and options and stay disiplined, the play is dead in the water every time... Notre Dame kept crashing in on the ball carrier and not keeping someone outside to stop the option toss... they weren't disciplined on defense, hence why Navy did so well against them.

Well, not quite. You can stay in the gaps all you want, but you have to win those match-ups to stop anyone. The point of the triple option is it gives the QB a chance to review the match-ups and pick the one that looks positive on that play.

Idk, that's about where I'd put them... granted it was a close loss to an unranked team, it's still only one loss.. Ohio State on the other hand keeps getting 4 team playoff talk when they have ****ing lost TWO games to ****ty teams and got blown out of the water both times... And the refs helped them to beat Michigan or else they would have lost last week too... they're a good team, but not nearly as good as bragged up to be... meanwhile Northwestern keeps getting completely overlooked (I'd bet on them to win their bowl game) and Wisconsin doesn't get the credit they deserve because the Big 10 teams have been beating each other up so Bucky doesn't get any ranked wins. Michigan, Iowa, and Northwestern were all good wins against good teams for Bucky. Its not like they've played "horrendous" teams all year long like the talking heads like to say. And Indiana isn't as bad as their record shows, and Illinois has a lot of good young guys and might be a decent team in a couple years. And Iowa isn't as bad as their record shows, they've just played tough teams, and still beat the snot out of the perpetually overrated one...

If the Big 10 champ game is fairly reffed, WI should be behind early, but turn it on in the third quarter and be ahead before the fourth and beat Ohio State by 10 points.

Obviously you have to win the matchups, and matchups will be lost sometimes (As happens to everyone in every game unless teams aren't anywhere near an equal match) but defenses should know the options the play provides and stay disciplined in their defensive positioning.

I noticed they are only 7 pts ahead of Ohio State (8).

Does Auburn play Georgia next week?

Yes they do...

And only 7pts ahead of Ohio State? That's insane... Miami lost one close game against an unranked team... Ohio State has lost TWO blowout games

Which is why those minding the gaps always get burned by the simplest of passes.

It depends on how well the O-line can block as well.

You can't have it both ways. If Wisconsin is underrated and in the top four and OSU beats them in the Big 10 championship, then all that Wisconsin credit should go to OSU's strength of schedule.

Does Auburn play Georgia next week?

Yup. God I hope UGA coaching staff gets their crap together this time. They have the talent to beat Auburn. They just need decent play calling. Auburn's play calling against Alabama was outstanding. They don't go much for the long game. Even their passing game is screens, throw backs and short slants for the most part. But its enough passing to loosen up the line for running. That's what UGA needs.

Jalen Hurts a wreck? Now I know you are not a real football fan. In two seasons, he has lot a grand total of two games and 2 second one was tonight. And that is against two very good teams. And you are pulling the ineligbility rant out of your backside. If you don't maintain a respectable grade average, you do not play for Nick Saban. I think you just have a bad case SEC or Bama envy.

To be fair, that's a very common condition.

I want to correct what I said earlier... OSU only lost to one not as good team... I forgot that their other loss was to OKLA, which is a very good team.

If OSU beats them, without ref help, they get full credit for beating a very good team. If not, it will go to show just how overlooked WI has been all season.

Exactly, Auburn did it right against Alabama, and hopefully Georgia can learn from their lopsided loss to Auburn the first time around.

And that's what frustrates me about WI sometimes when I watch them... They can most definitely pass the ball just fine, and they have talented receivers and tight ends (who get overlooked because of Taylor), and that's with their top receiver being injured, but they get stuck in the mindset of only passing in "must pass situations", which is where a lot of Hornibrook's bad decisions come from. Whenever they get into the 2nd half and start remembering that passing on first down (and other non-must-pass situations) is most definitely an option, and start faking handoffs and tosses to Taylor and doing jet sweeps (and the like) with their other running backs and their one receiver, they do quite well, Hornibrook makes good passes, and they get the opposing defense tired and then Taylor starts breaking off long runs up the middle.

If the Badgers start off with good playcalling right away (instead of having multiple three and outs until the second half), I think Ohio State will be in trouble and WI's tough and prideful defense will hold on for the win. If Wisconsin gets down by too many points too early, especially if Ohio State can force Hornibrook into making stupid passes, or strip the ball from Taylor, I think that's how Ohio State beats Wisconsin.

What a great football weekend. FSU beat UF and Auburn beat Bama.

All is right with the world.

Yes and quite understandable. Every fan has their favorite team and conference and in the Saban era, for the most party, for any team to get to the top prize, there is a very big chance that they will have to go through Alabama or the SEC to get there. Even though Bama was knocked off the number 1 ranking by Auburn, if Auburn beats Georgia, someone in the final four will likely Face Auburn. I don't have a problem with the envy.....except when it leads some to make stupid claims motivated by that envy.

Chances to be in the college football playoff according to 538 predictions:
Makes Playoff:
Clemson 76%
Oklahoma 66%
Auburn 52%
Alabama 48%
------------------
Wisconsin 47%
Georgia 42%
Ohio St. 34%
Miami 22%
TCU 6%
USC 5%

On a neutral field IMO Alabama would be the favorite over any college mentioned above.
