2017 College Football Thread [W:49]

Being a west coast guy I think the Mountain West is an under-rated conference. It's more than just the Broncos.

If you can make it up this way for the right weekend... we'll catch a lobo game. #1 rushing offense in college football last year.

I'd rank USC ahead of OSU. Trojans have a good QB. Buckeyes have JT Barrett.

We were ranked #115 in D last year. I'm not convinced we'll be much better this year. However, we did just hire Chuck Cecil a coach so.......

I just read a story on the lobos about being a possible big 5 conference team. Coach Davies didn't say no but he might as well have. He was happy that we have a new scoreboard, new better turf and a good weight room that all added up to $3 million of new stuff. Meanwhile Colorado State just got something like a $240 million cash infusion into their program and Wyoming is getting a big dose of cash as well. I sure wish we had some college football loving billionaires down here the likes of what Oregon gets.

The lobos have one really good advantage. It is a high altitude place so they got the Denver Broncos-like advantage over their opponets coming into town and sucking wind while when the lobos travel they have all that high altitude training on their lungs. Semi high altitude I should say. 5,300 feet which is about what Denver is.

There has been some talk about NM and NM St to the Big XII.

Yeah... that ain't happening. Boise St and other MW teams are in the running too and UNM can't sell out a single game. It's a big bone of contention with Coach Davies.

You've gotta think past football when talking about expansion. NM has a pretty good basketball program and good academics.

The basketball program is the pro team of the state. It gets the crowds. Although last year or two they started falling off on ticket sales. The coach that had the program humming along really well left for UCLA a few years ago and the assistant coach took over the reigns and didn't do so well and just got fired. UNM actually has a ski team that won national championship a few years back but that program almost got cut due to budget issues.

It'd be nice to slide into the Big XXII. It'd mean more tv revenue and whatnot.

See? It's just not about football.

I wrote my thesis on the effects of BAC on GPA. It's a work in progress.

It often comes with many DWI certifications along the way I'm sure.

Great school in a great town.

I have been warned to only discuss football

Preferably in nothing but glowing terms for the sport

So I will point out that the new coach is inheriting a team with a losing rocord for the past 3 years

So Texas has nowhere to go but up

Oh My God. Need a tissue? If you don't like the sport... find another thread to cry in.
