Nhl 2017-2018

So Fluery is back from the IR and we're tied for 5th in the entire league. Craziness is abound in the NHL.

Looks like Seattle will have an NHL team soon. I grew up Totems fan. Those were the days of cyclone fencing. The arch nemisis Connie Madigan, Guyle Fielder, Larry Lund, Don Head, Earl Heiskela, Jimmy McCloud...

Lots of great Hockey back in the day.

I hope it comes to pass - there's certainly plenty of money in the community to support a team and with Vancouver and the Canucks close by should be an instant rivalry developed and lots of tourist dollars crossing the border in both directions.

All up to Seattle now since the NHL has said they'd welcome a bid.

How is Vegas "we" for Atlanta? Aren't the old Atlanta teams in Winnipeg and Calgary these days?

Move the Coyotes to Seattle, IMO.

New team, no baggage, and I missed following hockey equals we.

Toronto has tons of young talent in the minors that can't make the team, lots of forward talent - thought being that Philly might be interested in a package deal. Simmons cap hit is apparently very low, around $4 million, making him a premier commodity if the Flyers choose to move him.

Flyers are the most streaky team I've seen in a long while, wouldn't surprise me if they went on a long winning streak now that they've ended the losing streak.

Alright CJ, tonight you'll see what's going on.

After a 10 game losing streak, then going on the road and winning 3 straight, the Flyers play Toronto tonight in Philly.

So, in Philly at this point in time leads me to think the Flyers will fall apart.

They get Gudas back, which is good, assuming he can control his animal instincts.

But they've also had 4 days off since last game, which for the Flyers doesn't seem to work in their favor.

7:00pm game. Coin toss as to which Flyers team shows up tonight.

League was 2 teams short in the west - added Las Vegas, now Seattle, brings them into line with the east - Coyotes won't move because Bettman is totally invested in making a team work there and besides, because of the Coyotes, Austin Matthews chose to play hockey and he's now the Leaf's savior, so all is good. Teams likely to look at relocation are Carolina, although new cash is buying in shortly, and Florida - a move to Quebec City would fit since they have the arena but no investors with upwards of $1 billion Canadian to buy a new franchise.

Flyers had a 10 game losing streak - luckily picked up some loser points along the way - and yet they're still only 6 points out of the playoffs and virtually tied with the 3rd place team in the crossover division.

Like I said, streakiest team I've ever seen. It is hard to come back from a western road trip and play well first game back, but the Leafs were able to do it last week and they had a similar 4 days off after the trip so the secret may be the extra rest days. Flyers and Leafs are always competitive, fun games, regardless of where each is in the standings. Leafs goalies are red hot at the moment, so could be another low scoring game, and I'm not over confident at all that the Leafs can win tonight considering their long history with the Flyers. Matthews may be out again tonight - no word either way yet.

Good luck tonight, but nothing more than an overtime loss for the Flyers - deal??

Yes they are.

I go back to the days when the Atlanta Flames, California Golden Seals and Minnesota North Stars were on the schedule---oh, and when playing the Canadians meant a loss. I guess I'm getting old.

Looked at the power ratings from a few places before the start of the season, and all had Vegas at the bottom or one up from the bottom. Whoops! They’ve already won more games than expected.

The way they set up the draft was wise. After watching expansion teams struggle, nobody wants to watch a team suck badly for years.

Great to see Vegas playing well, and amazing considering they’ve gone through so many netminders. Goalies can win and lose games on their own. When they got to their 3rd and 4th string I thought the winning train was going to slow down. Amazingly it kept chugging along.

Their goalie coach has a unique approach when compared to the rest of the league where goalies play deep. He has them coming out further, cutting off angles (a bit more old school), and being active and aggressive. Love his take on practice too; that goals against in practice don’t mean anything. Seems to be working well. Fleury, Subban, Dansk and Lagace all have done well; was great to see the kid from Nanaimo get some experience at the highest level (Ferguson?).

My models as a kid were Johnny Bucyk and Derek Sanderson (Face-off King), which is the same era. How’d you like the white skates of the Seals? LOL...

The amazing thing is how good hockey is in the lower leagues... below the AHL, DEL or Swedish Hockey League (former Elite Series). Lots of skill, great coaching... just the guys tend to be smaller. If you’re not over 6’, and 195, you’re small these days.

Hockey’s kept me fit... am as in good shape as kids half my age... which is most of the guys in the league I play in.

As for the NHL, I wasn’t happy to see the Kings get rid of Sutter, but it tells you what I know... LOL. They’re playing great, and it’s wonderful to see Brown kicking ass again.

I hear the Stanley Cup parade is slated for next week. Yay, Laughs!

ROTFLOL...

Love the billboard from years ago:

Watch the Leafs win the Cup...
On the History Channel

They’ve got a great young core, and a great coach. Their future is bright, even if I can’t stand Toronto.

That said, I was pulling for them against Washington in the playoffs last year.

With Fleury gone, not sure how long, they'll start looking like an expansion team.

Amazing... I think that was the collective thought process of most ardent hockey fans. Amazingly, they’ve gone from strong to stronger.

To think how good they should be for years to come, as they have a stack of high draft picks.

Kobie stated he thought Grubauer was going to get picked by Vegas... I thought so too. Their goaltending depth has proven to be incredible.

Quebec City.
They have a rink there waiting.

They had a team once that failed or moved or something. The Nordiques.

As a Black Hawks fan, I knew those Bruins well. The only thing I really remember about the Seals was that they moved to Cleveland and then died on the vine. Oh, and that they had a goalie named Smith who I thought later was Billy Smith only to be informed by an Islanders' fan that the Seal net minder was Gary.

Became the Avs.

They built a new stadium hoping for a team... might be a costly error.

Cleveland Barons... at the same time there were the Kansas City Scouts. I think Cleveland became the CO Rockies... and KC??? Not sure.

Scouts became the Rockies. The Barons folded, but a lot of their assets went over to the North Stars.

KC lost the NBA Kings and the MLB Athletics too. But, I think the baseball team left before I was born. The basketball team left in the 80's, moving to Sacramento.

Oh man. I forgot the Rockies are no longer Colorado's hockey team. The Avs are. The Rockies moved to Jersey and became Devils.

Flyers 4 - Leafs 2

Congrats on the win - not a great game from either side but the Flyers deserved the win. First time this year, in 13 games, that the Leafs went into the third period with a lead and lost the game - first time the Flyers won in the reverse situation - perfect storm result.

Leafs have been consistent all year, without a losing streak, so not concerned - want to see the Flyers play more consistently the rest of the way and make the playoffs because they're good enough.
