Nhl 2017-2018

Predictions:

Atlantic: Montreal, if Price stays healthy
Metro: Washington, Holtby is just that good
Central: Minnesota seems to be the consensus most likely division winner, and I got nothing better to contradict that
Pacific: Every one seems to be picking Edmonton, but I can't do it. I am going with the Ducks

I know Montreal is struggling right now but they will get their **** together eventually. I agree they will win the Atlantic. As for Ottawa, I think they will prove that last year's playoff success was not a fluke. They might not have the most talent, but the coaching is outstanding. They are playing like a well-oiled machine even without Karlsson.

I hear the Stanley Cup parade is slated for next week. Yay, Laughs!

We can wait - after all, we've been faithfully supportive of our Leafs through good and bad, and mostly bad, for 50 years. No fair weather Leaf fans in Toronto.

Congrats on the Sens having a super western Canada trip.

Still very early in the season, but I'd have to say everyone has to be a bit surprised by the performance of the Vegas Knights thus far.

With Fleury gone, not sure how long, they'll start looking like an expansion team.

Subban may surprise us all. If he is anything like his brother, he may end up one hell of a goalie.

Possible, but a rookie goalie on an expansion team is not a recipe for success. LV isn't like prior expansion teams because they got a lot of serviceable players, but unless Subban is the second coming of Ken Dryden, I'm not expecting much.

Fleury is only going to be out a week.

Eddie Olczek will call his first game since being diagnosed with cancer Wednesday.

Going from a 30 inch old TV to a nice new 65 inch TV, pretty nice.
Watching Chicago suck on the new TV, priceless!

Seeing Vegas and Columbus at 5-1 really has me loving this NHL thing.

The Leafs juggernaut continues in the early season, scoring goals at an 80s Oilers pace. Nice shutout win in Washington and then a goal fest against the Red Wings at home in back to back games with the Red Wings having the previous night off in Toronto waiting for the Leafs. Fun team to watch too.

May not get to say it again, so I'll crow now - Leafs leading the NHL in the President's Trophy race.

I'm sure you're well aware that winning that may not be exactly what you want.

True enough, but only if you're not consistent in your play for the entire year. Teams that have won the President's Trophy recently, such as Washington, haven't gone into the playoffs on the upswing having relied too much on their star players, played them too much, and then tired out in the playoffs. The Leafs, in my view, have an abundance of really good offensive talent and they don't rely on a couple of players to provide goal scoring, getting contributions from all four lines, having a terrific power play, and a mobile defense that is only getting better every game.

Not striving for the President's Trophy, just pointing out that it's nice for a team that ended last two years ago to be first and looking pretty solid so far this year. They have a history of slumping, often badly, in late December/early January so if they get through that in good shape, I'll be pretty interested in their playoff potential.

BTW, nice start for your Flyers!

Yeah, but I'm not counting on anything. The main players from years past are still there, and their inconsistency has a proven record.

I'd sooner place money on Toronto going deep into May 2018 than the Flyers making the playoffs at all right now.

Your Flyers are streaky, for sure, but one of these years they'll put it all together when it counts. Too much good talent there, but the goaltending is the really inconsistent part.

Too early to be pessimistic.

Congrats to the Senators on a win over the Leafs last night - MG will be happy, rightly so. Leafs were never really in the game, didn't play nearly as well as they have most of the year - two stinkers, against New Jersey and now Ottawa. Loss makes Mike Babcock very happy because all the talk in Toronto the last couple of days is how Vegas bookies have made the Leafs the league favorite to win the Stanley Cup and he's not nearly as high on how his team is playing. Good to get knocked down a peg or two and get the young team back to learning how to play a complete game in every area of the ice, all game.

Going to be a tough week for the Leafs - after Ottawa, they face LA who hasn't lost in regulation, and two up and comer teams in Philly and Carolina.

Fun rumor: Habs are keeping some cap space free in case Tavares becomes available later this season.

When it comes to shootouts, the Sens have got to be the worst in the league.

Holy ****, Habs scored a goal!

And two more! Montreal just needs to play the Rangers more often...
