Beats me, but I doubt that the players had any input in deciding what the tournament is called.

If I remember right, the first World Series was sponsored by the New York World newspaper.

I did see the recent Alabama/Minnesota 1-0 9 inning game recently, which was pretty awesome. Proof that you do not need a lot of offense to have a ton of drama. College softball is a great sport, all the athleticism and competition and drama, but without the commercialism that kinda drives football and basketball.

I get a kick out of it because the kids are so into it. Nobody is trying to pad their stats in hope that a pro scout will eyeball them. They're just there to play and to win.

I watched some of the game. I lost a bunch of interest once Arizona was eliminated.

There are players from other countries on some of the teams.
