In dramatic fashion, my countryman won the 100th Giro d'Italia, in the final stage he crushed the 3 people who stood in front of him with one stage left. Frenchman Pinot stood 10 seconds in front of him in the rankings on the third place, Nibali was second with a lead of 14 second and first was Nairo Quintana who had a whopping 53 seconds lead with only 18 miles left to go.

Dumoulin had lost his pink jersey 2 stages ago, that had a lot to with an unscheduled pit stop he had to make by the roadside, normally they do a number one (pee) while they ride but he had to do a big one during a mountain stage, costing him way more than 1 minute.

But today, he pedaled like he was a man possessed and by the 5 mile point he had overtaken 2 of the 3 people who stood in front of him and by the time the last rider finished (Quintana) he had a 31 second lead on the previous leader Quintana.

For the Dutch this is a historic victory for 2 reasons, reason one is that he is the first Dutchman ever to win the Giro d'Italia and because he was the first Dutchman to win one of the three big cycle races in 37 year (when Joop Zoetemelk won the Tour de France).

I used to love professional cycling. My guy was Marco Pantani. But, since he wasn't Lance Armstrong, they suspended him for doping. And, then he went all in on dope and snorted enough coke to blow up his heart. Kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

It was a great tragedy to see him and his floppy ears race up mountains.

Thank goodness racing today appears to be cleaner, after that idiot Armstrong almost wrecked the entire sport by his aggressive doping practices.

Some of the "legal" doping going on today concerns me. It's as if everyone now suddenly needs a steroid to combat their asthma and allergies. Tennis has the same problem.
