This is a story reflective of the suffering the Cubs fans endured for 108 years. The Cubs long time broadcaster Jack Brickhouse was calling the Cubs-Pirates game many years ago. It was the bottom of the ninth at Wrigley Field with the Cubs at bat with the bases loaded in a tie game. Jack Brickhouse begins saying with the count to the batter full at 3 & 2 with two out that "there are twelve ways the Cubs can win this game-a bunt, a hit, wild pitch, a base hit,.... here's the 3 &2 pitch! Strike three."

Been there, done that. My worst cub fan moment was in 1984 when the Cubs were up 2 games to none in a best of five NLCS play-off series with homefield advantage. They lost the series in five games.
