Favorite sports team and why

I grew up in the 1950's when baseball was king. When the world series rolled around the teachers brought in a TV for the students to watch the games. Baseball was played in the afternoons back then to include the world series. I followed three teams closely, the Braves which had been in Boston prior to their move to Milwaukee. We had a AA Southern League team, the Crackers who were affiliated with the Braves and a lot of their players made it to the big leagues. Then I followed the Cubs as I could pick up WGN on the radio and the Yankees.

To this day, I don't follow the NFL much as when I grew up the NFL was more of an after thought when it came to football, now College football, that was were the interest lie. Times change, but I am still a baseball fan and follow the college game of football.
I grew up listening to baseball on the radio. It's still my favorite sport to listen to, especially when driving.

Exactly. Baseball was meant to be viewed in person or listened to on the radio.

Alabama Crimson Tide football.

Alabama Crimson Tide, because Auburn sucks.

Robert Kraft: "Spirituality, Faith, and Democracy are the cornerstones of our country. We are all Patriots and tonight the Patriots are world champions!"

After 9/11 Mr. Kraft reminded the entire nation that we are all Patriots. The underdog Patriots made a believer out of me. Through the courage of legends like Tom Brady, Adam Vinatieri, and the rest of these brave men, they defeated the heavily favored Rams.

The Patriots way is the American way and that is why I became a Patriots fans. We are all Patriots however the New England Patriots helped us heal after the horrific aftermath of 9/11. I really believe the Patriots players were playing with a higher purpose, and were playing for us. It seemed that extra support helped them and for that I will always be a Patriots fan!

My favorite sports team will always be in Little League or High School football, basketball, volleyball or whatever, maybe a few small town college teams. They might not be as flashy, but you don't have to pay half a week's salary for a ticket, you can afford a hot dog at the vendors, parking isn't a traumatic experience, and they're a far sight more fun.

We're very fortunate in Michigan to have UofM, MSU, the Red Wings, Tigers, and Pistons...some really great teams, but for some reason all of my attention goes to the hapless Lions. :3oops:

Mets since 1962
Steelers since the early 70's.

That's pretty much it.

Years ago when I followed College basketball I followed UCLA. Mostly because way back when in the 60's when color TV was 1st becoming popular I still remember watching UCLA in their bright blue uniforms on our very 1st color TV. It was one of my 1st memories of color TV. Weird how we remember stupid things like that.

I've lived in too many cities to have a favorite team, but I usually like the teams that are within 300 miles of where I live at a given moment if they are competitive.

Nostalgically, I stiill like the Chicago teams from my youth like the Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and Cubbies. But, I certainly prefer the Cavs over the Bulls right now. And, I haven't really looked to the Bears for much since...oh, maybe 1990 or so. lol..I even rooted against them when they met Indy in the Superbowl a decade ago or so.

If push came to shove this year, I'd pick CBJ over the Hawks in hockey. But, I highly doubt it will come to that. So, I'll probably become a temporary Pens fan again, rooting for a repeat, once they eliminate Columbus, but cheer for the Hawks if they meet them in the Cup final.
IOW, you're a fair-weather fan.

Screw soccer. Watching paint dry is more exciting..

Baseball is the greatest sport invented.

BASEBALL???????:lamo

Baseball is up there with Cricket as the most boring drawn out sport in the world. Any sport where they actively have to come up with ways to speed it up is never going to be the "greatest sport invented". It's not even #1 in the US .

IOW, you're a fair-weather fan.

More like someone who just follows sports when something interesting happens. I like to root for the underdogs like the Bulls against the Celtics or Maple Leafs against the Caps.

The Blue Jackets are certainly in that category. And, the Cavs---well, they are from Cleveland after all.

"The greatest team in NFL history, the Pittsburgh Steelers." F #10
I like watching Rothlesburger play. And he's a sturdy guy.

BUT !!

Over the years he's taken one heck of a pounding, and the cumulative affects are adding up.
I'm not too sure how much longer he'll be hurling on the grid iron.

I'm from New York.
So I like the Sabres, and the Bills; but couldn't name a single player on either team.

I like the Giants, for the way they beat the Pats in the superbowl. That was an amazing game!!

Eli's bro Payton has retired, and may run for congress.

How much longer Eli will be wearing short pants, who knows?

Everton- Football *Although its a pretty one sided relationship :(

England-Football *Again very one sided, very abusive relationship

Patriots- American football *Grew to love them when I lived in NH and they have rarely let me down since.
