On ESPN some silly person wrote (and I quote):
Jaguars show they're every bit the AFC power as Patriots, Steelers
Really ESPN contributor? Really? The Jaguars are every bit the AFC power as the Patriots/Steelers?
Jaguars show they're every bit the AFC power as Patriots, Steelers - Jacksonville Jaguars Blog- ESPN
Lets see:
this season 10 wins 6 defeats
Last season 3 wins 13 defeats
season before that 5 wins 11 defeats
2014 they were 3 wins and 13 defeats
2013 they were 4 and 12
2012 it was 2 and 14
2011 it was 5 and 11
2010 it was 8 and 8
2009 it was 7 and 9
2008 it was 5 and 11.
So in the past 10 years they had one season where they won more than they lost (this season). They had one season they drew (won and lost 8) and one season they just missed on an 8 and 8 season (by going 7 and 9).
Meaning they won 52 and lost 108, that is not even a win percentage of 33%. So the Jaguars won roughly 1 in 3 matches in the past 10 years. That is not a power IMHO.
In that same period the Patriots won a 123 matches and lost 37 games. That is a winning percentage of close to 77%. That is a power in the AFL.
In that same period the Steelers won 106 matches and lost 54 games. That is a winning percentage of just over 66%. That is a power in the AFL.
The Patriots only had winning season, the Steelers had 9 winning seasons and one season in which it was 8 and 8.
There are a lot of other teams with a much better record than the Jaguars over the past 10 years,
Now is it possible that the Jaguars will do well again next season? Sure, if Fournette stays healthy, they will have a winning season again (almost certainly) but if they should loose Fournette in the pre-season, they will most likely not score a winning season (maybe 8 and 8 on the basis of the strong defense) because they are highly dependent on their star Running Back. Loose that and the team looses a lot of it's quality.
So sorry ESPN, but the Jaguars are not a power like the Patriots and the Steelers.
