Nfl 2017 [W:1941,2227]

After dissecting the 32 schedules, though the order they play teams is super important, I'm ready to give my playoff picks.

AFC---CIN, NE, KC, TEN; with WCs of BAL, DEN;

NFC---GB, DAL, CAR, AZ; with WCs of ATL and SEA;

As I suspected, schedules just confirmed my 'feels' ;;

Pfft. Power rankings are and have always been silly. A link from ESPN makes it even worse.

I think the Falcons will be due for a letdown since almost all recent SB runner ups have failed to make the playoffs after they lost the big one.

You guys should really try reading more instead of just taking the headline you like and running with it.

"J.D. Power noted that only 12 percent of the fans it surveyed said they watched fewer NFL games last season, with 27 percent of people saying they watched more and 62 percent saying they watched just as much as they had the season before."

So of the over 9,000 people surveyed only 12% said they watched fewer games, but 27% said they watched more. So if this study was even remotely accurate it should mean ratings actually went up.

Here's reality for you. When people know what is being studied they have a tendency to skew the study the way they want it to come out. I can virtually guarantee you that a lot of right wingers flat out lied in this study and claimed they watched less football and for that reason just because they wanted to try and scare the NFL into punishing Kap, but in reality their viewing habits didn't change that much at all, and if they did it was almost certainly for other reasons.

Furthermore we don't get a breakdown of why the 27% watched more. For all we know there were a lot of people that tuned in specifically because of the anthem protests. After all Kapernick's Jersey sales spiked in the time shortly after he started doing his protest it didn't fall.

and lastly.....

"NFL game viewership on networks that broadcast games was down an average of 8 percent for the 2016 regular season versus the season before. Before the election (Nov. 8), games for the first nine weeks were down 14 percent compared to 2015. The final eight weeks saw only a drop of 1 percent compared to Weeks 10-17 in 2015."

Here is your real culprit, and unlike your poll in can't be skewed with personal bias. The remaining 1% drop after the election is far more easily explained by people who cut the cord on cable.

Not knowing as much as others, still focused on MLB, my initial 'feels' are still usually my best. PIT is overrated, as is the AL West; I expect bounce-back years from CAR and CIN; DAL is still the team to beat in the NL playoffs;

Good teams with lesser records the year before tend to benefit from a weaker schedule; though I don't have them all memorized yet ;;

carolina will have a great year IF cam worked on his mechanics while out from shoulder surgery
if not, we will again contend for the bottom of the division - as was predicted

You don't like "the worldwide leader?"

The Seahawks are ranked too high. I see several problems that exist on that team:

1) Russell Wilson is a weak leader that does not command the respect from the majority of the lockerroom.

2) Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett are malcontents and due to a lack of leadership from Wilson and Pete Carroll, are allowed to spread their negativity throughout the rest of the team.

3) The Seahawks had a previously reliable PK who was making usually 90% of his FGs and was extremely clutch. They replaced him with Blair Walsh, who only makes 80% of his FGs and is mentally not the same player since missing a GW FG in the playoffs. He will cost the Seahawks games.

4) The offensive line is still weak.

For the NFC West, I like the Arizona Cardinals. They have a young emerging defense, a dominate RB, and a coach that knows how to control the game.

The NFC's is the Falcons conference. They changed their culture with a young coach and could dominate the next few years.

That division is stacked! I can see the Falcons winning 12-13 games and the Panthers winning 10-12.

From what I gather, Bears fans are far from ecstatic about Trubisky.

The scouting reports say that he is quick minded, and anticipates well.

That gives him a better than average chance of being a good NFL QB.

The negatives on him are not being able to read a blitz....... a no brainer bash against most any young QB.

Falcon's conference?

The NFC has 3-4 teams that could be home field advantage.

Falcons dominated the Packers and Seahawks. Cowboys have some hope however they have several limitations.

Last year...The Falcons beat Seattle in Atlanta. Seattle beat Atlanta in Seattle.

Hardly dominated.

Once again, you prove you don't know jack about the Hawks.

Are you implying the Seahawks are better than the Falcons?

I suspect the Hawks are better this year than last. Ans assuming they stay reasonably healthy, they will make plenty of noise.
After Atlanta took the gaspipe against an inferior Cheatriots team, we shall see if the hangover will haunt them.

Weak o-line, weak RBs, weak special team. The team is like a falling knife.

Oh you mean the team that handed the Cheatriots their asses in Foxboro last year?

That weak leader is one play away from leading his team to two Superbowl wins.

And Brady has 5. He's a couple fluke plays away from being a perfect 7-0.

I's going to be an interesting year in the NFL...

Browns during the National Anthem

Why do we need to play the anthem before games? Seems a trite tradition to me.

With white NFL players now showing unity with their national anthem-protesting black teammates, ESPN’s Will Cain believes the protest has become so “watered down” that the protests are coming to a “conclusion.”

Cain said Tuesday on “First Take” that since none of the players protesting have offered solutions, the protests have now shifted from police brutality to white players just showing they support their black teammates.
