"Our breakdown of UDFA center Quinton Schooley.#60 Quinton Schooley/C NC State: 6’3/3 294"

    The Good

    – Looks to have average to above average length
    – Plays with active hands, works hard to keep them inside, and will fight with the defender
    – Light on his feet in pass protection, ability to mirror and sits in his base
    – Base allows him to reset and anchor versus most bull rushes, shows ability to recover
    – Sets his hips well in the run game and shows a high degree of success on down blocks, generates a push
    – Active eyes and does excellent job of finding work when uncovered in pass pro or keying stunts/blitzes
    – Does a nice job on double-teams, working with the guard to carry the nose tackle into the second level"
    "

"He’s experienced, played a ton of ball, and shows solid technique as a result. I had read a 2014 article that said he wanted to get better on down blocks. If his 2015 tape is any indication, he certainly did. Playing versus Louisville’s one-gap front four helped but Schooley opened up some serious running lanes."

    Tyler Catalina, G, Undrafted

    "Tyler Catalina, OG

    School: Georgia | Conference: SEC
College Experience: Senior | Hometown: Worcester, MA
    Height/Weight: 6-4 / 330 lbs. "

"A four-year starter, Catalina spent his first three seasons in Rhode Island's spread offense vs. FCS-level competition before transitioning to a pro-style offense in the SEC at Georgia this past season -- had offers from several SEC programs for his final season of eligibility. He started all 13 games at left tackle for the Bulldogs in 2016, filling a large need for the offense, but it was an up-and-down year as the speed of the SEC exposed several of his deficiencies at tackle. Catalina struggles with balance and technique when forced to block in space and the move inside should help his consistency with less real estate to cover. Although his issues in pass protection are tough to overlook, Catalina has the heavy hands and finishing toughness for the next level and coaches will try and develop the rest -- guard-only prospect who is worth a late round pick or priority free agent. "

Can the Redskins upgrade this player to help with the run and pass blocking?

    KYLE KALIS, G

    "6'4"
    Height

    32 7/8"
    Arm Length

    308LBS.
    Weight

    10 1/4"
    Hands

"Strengths Well-schooled in technique and works hard to play with good fundamentals. Hands in punch-ready position in pass sets. Looks to control defender's shoulder with his hands and generally lands an accurate strike. Operates with sturdy base and good balance. Utilizes flat-backed posture through his pass sets. Understands his assignments and follows them against blitzes and twists. Maintains desired base and posture throughout most pass sets. Has enough natural strength to withstand a strong bull-rusher.

Weaknesses Might be playing with a base that is too wide. Wide base and upright pad level generates very little push as a drive blocker. Stiff throughout his lower body and operates with pounding, heavy feet. Pops straight up and takes restricted slow steps when pulling or when climbing to second level. Successful cut-off blocks on the second level will be a rarity in the pros."

Can the Redskins training help him enough to contribute?

With Jonathan Allen available, Redskins rejected 49ers trade proposal

The Redskins could have acquired extra picks in a first-round tradedown, but they needed an impact player more more than draft capital.

After decade-long search, Redskins hope safeties Su'a Cravens, D.J. Swearinger excel

The Redskins finally have two young safeties who, if they play well, could form a lasting combination at the position for Washington.
