Re: Redskins' Free Agency, Draft picks, Acquisitions 2017

"The Redskins have signed former Colts linebacker Chris Carter as a free agent, the team announced.

Carter, a 2011 fifth-round pick of the Steelers, will be joining his fifth NFL team. After playing for three years in Pittsburgh he has been with the Bengals and Ravens and he did two stints with the Colts.

Carter has been a reserve and special teams performer during his six NFL seasons. He has just four starts and none since 2013.

He has played on the outside when he has played on defense although at 245 lb. he also could play on the inside. But if he makes the roster it’s doubtful that he will see much action on defense and will be a special teams contributor as much as anything."

"The Washington Redskins had a lot of trouble on the defensive side of the football last season. This is no secret. They had issues at every level of the defense, but in particular, they had trouble at linebacker. Despite having some good individual performers, they were never able to find a combination of players that was able to work well. To attempt to help out the unit and the special teams group, the Redskins inked Chris Carter to a deal today"

Re: Redskins' Free Agency, Draft picks, Acquisitions 2017

"After four seasons with the Oakland Raiders, defensive lineman Stacy McGee is heading to the East Coast, signing a deal with the Washington Redskins.

McGee, 27, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma.

In four seasons with the Raiders, the 6-foot-3, 310 pounder has recorded 63 tackles along with three sacks and two fumbles forced in 51 regular season games.

McGee had arguably his most productive season in 2016, tallying 17 tackles along with 2.5 sacks for a Raiders team that made the playoffs.

He recorded a career-high 1.5 sacks against the San Diego Chargers on Oct. 9"

Christian McCaffrey would boost Redskins' offense

Mock drafts continue to push running backs to the Redskins in the first round, and it could make sense but defense is the more pressing need.

Redskins need more help at corner, both lines

As free agency enters its second week, the Redskins are still looking for help. Here's a breakdown of how many players they might add at each position.

Re: Redskins' Free Agency, Draft picks, Acquisitions 2017

    Brian Quick, WR

"When the team called with the offer, he swelled with confidence. He says their trust has him more motivated than ever."

That motivation led to 41 catches for 564 yards and three touchdowns in a full 16-game schedule. He was second on the team in receiving yards behind only Kenny Britt's 1,002, and he finally appeared to be a difference-making receiver in the NFL.

Still, Pro Football Focus gave him a mediocre grade of 61.1 in its 2017 free-agency tracker, which was 35th among wide receivers.

While the lack of an established resume likely hurt his earning potential on the open market, Quick is still only 27 years old.

Until the 2016 campaign, Quick was just a potential-filled receiver with athleticism and height (6'3") who could theoretically develop into an impact weapon. He still hasn't fulfilled expectations, but he turned the corner in a healthy season and will now have a chance to build on that with a new team."

Brian Quick, Redskins Agree to Contract After 5 Seasons with Rams | Bleacher Report

"Earlier this month, wide receivers DeSean Jackson (Buccaneers) and Pierre Garcon (49ers) signed elsewhere as unrestricted free agents.

Quick is the second wide receiver to sign with the Redskins in free agency, joining Terrelle Pryor, who signed a one-year contract earlier this month.

A lot was expected from Quick, 27, when the Rams drafted him 33rd overall out of Appalachian State in 2012, but he's had a penchant for drops and hasn't quite lived up to the hype.

Quick has made 105 catches for 1,499 yards and 10 touchdowns in 67 games for the Rams since, hauling in only 51 percent of his career targets. Only six receivers had a lower rate during that time.

He seemed to be getting going early in 2014, making 21 catches for 322 yards in the first four games, but he was soon set back by a devastating shoulder injury that could've ended his career."
