The Charles Oakley Matter

Nice little soap opera we have...

I'm just glad that I am not a Knicks fan. I do hope though that they give the Cavaliers Carmello Anthony like they gave us JR Smith and Shumpert...for nothing. Maybe Phil will take that white guy with the blown out knee who is on Cleveland's IR list.

Big deal.

Someone got into a 'fight' in NYC.

Stop the presses.

In Trump terms: It's not a Charles Oakley ban, just extreme vetting of people who look just like Charles Oakley

"Get him out of here....that's a bad dude, we dont need him"
DTJ (paraphrase)

From what I gather, Oakley has been pissing off Dolan for years by bashing the Knicks. He then says he doesn't understand why the Knicks, and Dolan in particular, won't treat him with respect. ...lol

Now, I get why Oak Tree would be all over Dolan and rips the Knicks every chance he gets. They are most deserving of that treatment. But, Charles, dude, when you do that, don't be shocked when you end up persona non grata.

That being said. Charles bought a ticket and had every right to see the game without a mob of security swarming all over him.

Oh yeah, there's been bad blood for years between the 2. Even though Oakley was 1 one the fan favorite Knicks from those teams in the 90's, since then he's been treated by MSG as a persona non grata. But that, like this latest incident is, IMO, both sides fault. Dolan's got to be a bigger man and take criticism better, AND Oakley got to tune it down.

But Dolan is a moron, and getting into this battle with an all-time fan favorite was stupid. There's no way Dolan could win this battle. Now he bans Oakley and then last night the fans at MSG chant Oakley all night long. LOL

The big ? to me is why he fired the security chief? Something is missing.

The security chief was no slouch either--former Secret Service supervisor under two presidents from what I heard yesterday on the radio.

Yep, he worked for Bush 2 and Obama.

I found this out over the years. That these sports teams, any sport, and the sports leagues all hire top notch security people. Ex-FBI, secret Service, top ex-cops from big city police forces, NYC, etc.

So that's why I find it unbelievable when teams, AND the leagues play dumb about drugs, steroids, deflategate, violence. that goes on with their team or sports league. The NFL has top of the line security people working for them, but they never knew there was a video of Ray Rice knocking out his GF until it showed up on the Internet? lol Bull..

SI calls on Silver to act.

Perhaps Silver had hoped to handle this behind closed doors, through quiet mediation. Unfortunately, the time for that already passed given Oakley’s many interviews and Dolan’s inflammatory comments. Silver simply can’t sit this one out. Not when LeBron James is backing Oakley “for president.” Not when NBPA president Chris Paul says he “[doesn’t] like the way [the Knicks] are trying to portray Oak.” Not when NBPA executive Director Michele Roberts says that it’s “painful to believe that my last image of Oak at MSG is him dragged out of the arena. Is this how we remember our Legends?” And not when Oakley's attorney is threatening legal action against Dolan for insinuating Oakley abuses alcohol.

...The NBA commissioner can’t wipe Joakim Noah’s contract off the books or undo the damage caused by Phil Jackson’s inept management, but he can act to bring Dolan into line with the league’s values and expectations.

Obviously Phil Jackson's 11 Rings as a coach?? Is a WOW!!

But 1 of the whispered criticisms about those rings is Jackson always had some of the greatest basketball players in HISTORY on those teams. That he was mostly just a motivator, and didn't have a 'great basketball mind'. Motivation is a BIG part of coaching/managing. I give him all the credit for that. And I'm sure some of that criticism was simply because of jealousy.

But it's beginning to look like Jackson is NOT a great basketball front office person, not even a good one. His time as GM/an Exec has been a bust.

Sure. Jordan was the GOAT as player, but he sucks as an owner. Same can be said about Phil: great coach, terrible exec. Both can turn that around, but for now, that looks to be highly unlikely.
