Major League Baseball 2017

Signing 1 of the best catchers in baseball to a 3 year deal? Sounds pretty good to me. Or are you referring to something else?

I need more details please.

That's $20 MM/yr for a 35 yo catcher, who will certainly have declining skills, and if he's like most catchers, likely rapidly declining skills.

? It's only a 3 year deal, and right now he's still damn good. They get 2 good years out of the 3 years, that's a good deal.

Anyway all organizations make mistakes. The Cardinals just seem to make less mistakes, which is why they are pretty damn good almost every year without being 1 of the top 'spenders' in baseball.

It's a bit of an overpay based on what he does on the field, but he's still well above average defensively and even a bit above average offensively for catchers. But most importantly it gives our top catching prospect who is currently obliterating everything he sees in AAA a couple years to learn from one of the best catchers of all time.

Freddy Freeman broke his wrist, out ten weeks, and Atlanta signed James Loney and is sending him to Gwinnett.

For bad situation "right now", the Loney signing may work out well for the Braves.

Loney is an awful option.

They got Matt Adams, who should be solid now that he's getting a chance to play.

Loney is a fine back up. Adams, if he can hit well, will be starting, and Loney is in reserve if and when necessary. You need to see the whole field, Threegoofs.

It seems Matt Kemp is playing with a renewed passion.

Loney was a HUGE help to the Mets last year. He still plays a great 1st base and will get a timely big hit sometimes.

Dodgers pitching, to switch a topic, is much more consistent this year. The Diamondbacks and Rockies each got out to a great start, but I think the Boys in Blue will be in first place by four or five games at the end of June.

Are the Colorado Rockies for real?

It appears they have decent pitching now.

Giants pitcher hit Harper on purpose with a 97 mph fastball. Harper charged the mound and got in a good shot. Both ejected. If there's justice the Giant will lose a few games and Harper will be back in the line-up tomorrow.

You're kidding. Right?

Throwing his helmet will get Harper a few games, at least.

He threw the helmet AWAY from the pitcher. MASN commentator Ray Knight suggested post game that precedent would get Harper five games. Then Knight said Harper did the right thing.

Doesn't matter where he threw it. He threw it. That's all they will care about. 5 games sounds about right.
