Years ago when I moved to Ohio from SC, I was amazed at the many hidden secrets buried here that few people living in the rest of the country really know about. I found fantastic hiking trails at the foot of the Appalachians, with bluffs and running streams everywhere, which rivaled those found in the upstate Carolinas. I moved into a house which has close to a thousand miles of interconnected paved bike paths running right behind it. At the time, before the winters became too mild, we had a fantastic skiing resort that blew away anything found in Vermont, Upstate NY or PA. And, there are plenty of lakes for swimming. Just ask my dog.
The state is a little bit of outdoors heaven. But, it's also the best kept secret in the US. And, that suits me fine, because it keeps the crowds away.
As for spectator sports---well--this year we are at the top of the map. No secret anymore. Indians in the World Series, Cav's as world champions, Blue Jackets the best team in hockey, Buckeyes always in the top 10 or so for CFB...hell, pretty soon Ohio will be the envy of all sports.
What blows my mind is that whenever I tell people I meet when out of state that I live in Ohio, they still say, "I'm sorry."
