Nba 2017

I don't see it. Worse record, worse point differential, lost a playoff series, losing record against above .500 teams. The best I think can be argued is they were about equal, but with Washington adding no one and the Celtics adding Hayward, I don't see how Washington will be better than them this year. And to add to that Tatum and Jaylen Brown have looked phenomenal in Summer League, although to be fair that's not worth all that much.

Right or wrong, Wizards management believes they have a high level contending core already, and the path forward is to grow together now.

I think they're right. You've got to stick with Wall, Beal, and Porter. I just think the way they are, they're probably 3rd or 4th in the East.

The Wiz looked to be faster and more physical than Boston. I do not see Hayward helping with either.

As 2017 segues into the 20118 season, we see much of the same developing. Warriors will be champs. Sure, there are a few teams in the West who improved, notably OKC and the Timberwolves. But, seriously, does anyone think they have a snowball's chance to dethrone the champs? Hell, the team actually got better, picking up a decent draftee in Jordan Bell, a potential all NBA defender someday. And, of course, they found Nick Young ring shopping and signed him to a clean, affordable deal. So, yeah--now they have a fourth guy who can reliably drain threes from nearly 40 feet away.

Also rans out West: Houston, SA and Clippers. None of those teams did squat to improve, IMO. They certainly did not improve enough to compete with GS.

East--now, there we may have some competition, but compared to the West, it's like watching a High School tournament right after seeing UCLA play Kansas. A healthy Sixers team should be entertaining. Same with the Bucks. I have no doubt Giannis Antetokounmpo will be an MVP candidate (at least in the East), but Jabari Parker (even if he comes back from his knee injury--a "IF" IMO) has simply not been a good fit with GA and Middleton (who was also hurt last year). Are they a big three on a team with a shot at a 3 or 4 seed? To early to tell, too many unknowns.

IMO, it's Cleveland with Boston and, to a lesser extent, Washington at their heels. Boston certainly got a steal in the Draft. IMO, Tatum, with his ability to create shots, is probably the closest thing yet to Kobe since Kobe. But, they lost their only defender in Avery Bradley. Who's gonna guard Kyrie? Certainly not Isaiah. Marcus Smart? Yeah, that should be fun to watch....for a Cavs' fan.

Cleveland looks to be a 30-plus, hair club for growth ad right now. Kyrie and TT are still young, but Love plays like a 30 year old already. And, their new back up PG, Jose Calderon is going on 36. Maybe, that Kay Felder guy can be their Isaiah....but, I doubt it. It's probably one more year for Cleveland and then bust---just in time for the grand opening of their billion-dollar stadium renovation. Gilbert sure seems dumb for a rich guy who made a fortune selling cheap loans. Maybe he has an ace up his sleeve. But, IMO, he needs two to retain LeBron after next season.

The best laid plans . . . .

The best laid plans . . . .

I hate to say it, but the only suspense will be to see if GS can avoid losing Durant or Curry to injury. And, IMO, it would require losing both before their odds-on favorite status finds even a shred of jeopardy.

The upside? It's nice to see a team never before known for winning become the greatest team in history.

I think I'd take the Celtics teams who won 8 titles in a row and 10 of 11.

Perhaps, but it is nice to see someone else challenging it--especially a perennial loser like GS, which used to be a laughing stock. Hell, what have they had in their history to cheer about besides Rick Berry?

Rick Barry and his championship are more than some franchises have.

I vaguely remember those days, mostly because my best friend's dad was a huge RB fan. They used to play the games on tape delay and we would watch them with him on nights I slept over. I was in 7th grade, I think, and was just learning to play the game. We spent countless hours shooting hoops in the dude's driveway.

It's the one sport I played until I was finally too old to play it safely--36 or so.

Cavs sign Turkish defender. No, it's not soccer.

Young, tall, tough, and not a bad three point shooter either.

Cleveland Cavaliers to sign Turkish player Cedi Osman

The Cavs picked Osman, 22, with the 31st pick after a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is a 6-foot-8 forward known for his defensive activity. The Cavs have been interested in getting Osman so he can add some youth and energy to their bench.

...The team used roughly half of its taxpayer mid-level exception of $5.2 million to execute the deal. The Cavs have made four signings this offseason -- Kyle Korver, Jeff Green, Jose Calderon and now Osman -- and have continued to spend deep into the tax. Signing Osman will effectively cost the team about $15 million when including the tax.
Got to hand it to Gilbert. He is spending. Maybe LBJ stays after all.

This is true. Although a few teams out West improved themselves immensely during the trading season, most notably Minnesota and OKC, none have risen to the level of the Warriors, who really will probably be even better next year than they were this year.

What can shift this?

1. Minnesota or San Antonio getting Kyrie would be worthwhile to discuss if they could get him for stiffs, prospects and future picks. But, that won't happen. Cleveland would never just give Kyrie away. In fact, they want both, a star and a prospect. MN would have to give up Wiggens and Teague or, at the least, a future pick and more. SA would have to give up Leonard, which of course is never going to happen.

2. Boston has the the players to compete if they could land Kyrie. Problem is Cleveland doesn't want Isaiah Thomas and future draft picks. I'm not sure who Boston can send to the Cavs that draws interest.

3. Clippers could use Kyrie, bad. Cavs could make Griffin work for them. But neither team would beat the Warriors with that move. So, why bother?

4. Houston has improved. And, since they picked up Chris Paul, there is no room for Kyrie. But, it sure would be interesting to see a team with Paul, Hardin and Irving. Not sure what Cleveland can get from a deal with the Rockets, even if four other teams were involved in the trade.

5. Cleveland is still the only team that even comes close to challenging GS, only because of LBJ, but they won't do compete unless they get a couple nice pieces for Kyrie. Bledsoe and Josh Jackson would be those pieces. So, too, maybe, would a Cavs team with Wiggens and Teague. But, I doubt we see that happening.
