Kaepernick Sits During National Anthem

What war? Where were you? What unit?

Gulf War. In training. 82nd Abn. I joined 4 days after the 82nd was deployed (Aug 6) with infantry, airborne and 82nd in my contract.

Hm.....and what exactly do you mean by talking about my user name? Other then your usual bs, that is?

One cannot ignore the connection between glorifying the Nazi regime and spewing racist crap.

By the way, guess why you have the right to say what you want?

It's because this country recognizes natural rights including the right to expression. The right to expression includes sitting during the Anthem.

Nonsense. If giving an unfair advantage to certain people solely due to their race isn't racist, nothing is. Believing blacks are not capable enough to succeed of their own volition, simply because of the melanin content of their skin, is patently racist rhetoric. It's disgusting and reprehensible.

Clearly you don't get it. No shocker there.

While I get where you're coming from, it sure appears that is precisely what he wanted. He said as much didn't he?

Protest =/= disrespect.

What kind of fascist crap is it to equate the two.

Eco, I would suggest he was intentionally disrespectful. Whether he is right or wrong, that appears to be the case.

It's fascist to equate protest and criticism with disrespect.

I figure that after 300 years of slavery and oppression we will need as a country at least 150 year to help set things straight. I'm not racist like that......

Ah, so now your calling me a Nazi? That's pretty ****ing funny, actually. You should ask around, see if anybody agrees with that conclusion.

We have the right because thousands of people have fought and died to preserve that right and the other rights enumerated in the constitution. Without them, there would be no right to sit during the anthem. Disrespecting that is wrong, period.

Now your bringing up fascism?

There's so much bull**** there it's not even funny. .

Lack of respect = lack of pride and vice versa.

Fascism my ass.

Racists are forced to pretend systemic privilege does not exist because it allows them to blame the plight of blacks entirely on blacks. It allows racists to claim that black poverty being disproportionate is a result of black inferiority. Sometimes racists will attempt to obfuscate their fundamental claim by blaming "black culture" instead of black people.

Ultimately, it is absolutely fundamental to racist rhetoric that systemic privilege be denied. That denial is the foundation of their claims of inferiority.

Fascism my ass.

One can criticize one's country, point out flaws and lay claims of injustice. It's not disrespectful to criticize one's country. Saying "hey, something is ****ed up in this country and I'm going to draw attention to it" is not disrespectful to those that have served, nor is it disrespectful to the country or nation.

I think we need to accept that the country/nation is not perfect. And pointing out flaws is in no way disrespectful.

Some people get pissed when someone draws attention to racial injustice.

Anything else to see here?

Anything else to see here? Eco, if you can't see it on your own, pointing it out to you is usually fruitless and an exercise in futility, because when it comes to racial issues, your posts seem to most always be blind to most anything else.

But, yes. There's a good bit more to see here.

Like I said earlier, I get where you're coming from. But CK said it was about lack of pride. And lack of pride is a lack of respect.

He knew beforehand that his actions would not be appreciated. As such, he gets what he gets.

Unlike Gabby Douglas who seemingly just spaced it.

Oh, please. If Kaep had sat to protest "the gay agenda" or "black racism", white nationalists would be applauding his bravery and insisting that this sort of high-profile protest is gravely needed.

The only reason Kaep is being **** on is his chosen issue.

True, pointing out flaws in the nation is not disrespectful. However, metaphorically dropping your pants and taking a virtual dump on the flag, IS disrespectful. This guy has enough public recognition, and lives one of the largest media markets, to where all he had to do was to go on any TV program and make his point with his mouth, or attend a protest in the streets, or organize a march in support of his cause. Disrespecting the flag, the anthem, and those that have fought to protect both is disrespectful.

You have every right to feel that it it's not disrespectful, but that doesn't change the fact that for a large segment of society, this is seen as an extreme act of disrespect.

Like I said earlier, I get where you're coming from. But CK said it was about lack of pride. And lack of pride is a lack of respect.

Doesn't the racism in this country reduce your pride in the country? It does mine. There's nothing disrespectful about that. Anything one would protest is a source of reducing one's pride in one's nation.

One can be both not proud and not disrespectful.

He knew beforehand that his actions would not be appreciated. As such, he gets what he gets.

He chose to draw attention to the issue. Not standing for the Anthem was a method. It worked. Claiming that not standing for the Anthem, even when one's intention is to protest, is somehow disrespectful is fascist.

You vill recite the Pledge, you vill stand for the Anthem, or you are an enemy of the state!

Come on. You have better sense than that.

Unlike Gabby Douglas who seemingly just spaced it.

haha

I don't give a crap what white nationalists would approve of. I would be just as pissed no matter what his reason would be. His choice of issue to act upon is not my issue. My issue is that he disrespected the flag, the anthem, the country as a whole, and those that have fought to protect, preserve, and defend all three. That is, unless you were lumping me in with those white supremacist nationalists you mentioned?

Yea, sure.

Who is insisting upon that? Kaepernick decided to do something to bring attention to himself and he is getting what he wanted--people are talking about him.

That's fair.

I've respected you and your posts since I've been a member here, to this point.

Nationalism is not patriotism. And I could give a **** what any nationalist thinks about anything.
