Rio de Janeiro (CNN)The US Olympic swimmers facing questions about their reports of being robbed in Rio de Janeiro were involved in a fight at a gas station in the city and committed acts of vandalism there, a Brazilian newspaper is reporting.The report is the latest development in the saga surrounding swimmers Ryan Lochte, James Feigen, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz since questions emerged about their account of being robbed at gunpoint early Sunday.

Apparently they can't verify the butt in question at the gas station. However, great way to represent the country guys. Thanks a heap. And, nobody will remember your athletic performance now.

Between someone who has absolutely no reason to lie, (Lochte) and people who have every reason to lie (Brazilian authorities), I'll side with Lochte until proven otherwise. The IOC came out the day it happened and called him a liar before they knew anything because it made them look bad, but a day later retracted it.

Brazil is a hot mess where ****ed up **** like this has happened non-stop. Why on earth would anyone take their word at face value over our own athlete? We need to stop letting the Olympics get hosted in 3rd world countries who can't provide basic safety or sanitation for athletes.
 
C4 news here carried vid of them walking down a street, then returning to the athletes village, relaxed and joking, not looking recently-robbed at gunpoint.

Hey, why don't you believe his co-conspirators. They all said Lochte made up the robbery story.
 
How do we know that the security guard didn't rob them? In a third world country like Brazil, that is a serious possibility, and I would not put it past Brazilian authorities to try to cover that up. The other swimmers may have been paid off, or more likely threatened to change their story and say it was made up. I'm still giving the benefit of the doubt to Lochte on this one, even though he is a douche.

I didn't say they shouldn't pay for it. I asked how do we know that the security guard didn't rob them?

They never claimed the security guard robbed them.

They said it was police that robbed them.

Why would you think the security guard robbed them?

No, they claimed it was a person acting like a cop who robbed them. That would be a security guard.

What I remember about Lochte from the last Olympics is that he is somebody regarded as not exactly ate up with bright.

I watched about 20 minutes of the Brazilian press conference today. I'm not sure about the "ladies" who may/may not have been present and understand that not all the details have been revealed. But it was said that one of the athletes was very upset (and, I think, snitched on the others) and talkative, and this was Lochte.

My prediction is that this won't end well for the Olympians.

Go back and read the account again.

They claimed they were stopped in a taxi by police who put a gun to his head.

They never said they were robbed at the gas station.

Yes, but a Security guard or whatever demand that they pay before leaving is by definition "robbery". $900 for a door or peeing on a wall.. is outrageous.

After the supposed robbery incident, Lochte talked with USOC officials who asked that he let them handle this quietly.

From there, Lochte ran straight to the interview microphones
