Several muslim athletes have gone to extreme lengths to show thier anti-semitic attitudes

A Saudi Arabian forfeited a match to not face an Israeli and Egyptian refused to shake hands with an Israeli and was sent home by the IOC.

Another win for "moderate muslims" and the "religion of peace"

Well, they sure don't understand what the Olympics and sports are all about. Why did they even go?

OTOH, I'm sure there were other muslims at the Olympics who did act sportsmanlike. We should look that up. To Egypt's credit, it was the Egyptian Olympic committee that sent the athlete home.

This kind of stuff has happened for years; thankfully, such incidents are relatively rare.

On the other hand, Mo (hamed) Farah defended his London Gold medal with style and modesty.... Those two examplea are not typical.

Mo Farah is not from the middle east. These two are very typical of middle eastern attitudes towards Israel

is this worse than Tommie Smith and John Carlos

Yes he is.. he is also a Muslim. He was born in Somalia and moved to the UK as an 8 year old.

This is political not religious. Israels treatment of Muslims is what they are protesting about. Yes there is a double standard and yes it is silly, but that is how it is.

Funny how only Muslims raised in a western culture can behave in a civilized manner

calling it how is "how is it" is just as bad as the anti-semitic athletes. They refuse to recognize Ireals as a state and the Jewish people have a right to be alive. If you are unable to condemn that behavior you are enabling it.

Your thread title uses the word "pervasive". Here is the definition of that word:

existing in every part of something : spreading to all parts of something

Prove "existing in every part of something : spreading to all parts of something".

And what about anti-Muslim, anti-gay, anti-Rusisian or anti-American athletes? Are they bad too?

What? Where on earth do you get that idea from? have you spoken to the people involved? All they did was refuse to shake the hands of an Israeli athlete. Now the most likely things is that it is political and due to the Israeli policy against Muslims. After all, have they refused to compete against Jews in general? No... not that I am aware off.

It is no different than people booing Gatlin after his silver medal, and I bet ya that loads of athletes have refused to shake Gatlins hand over the years.

Well you clearly arent aware us much then, in the 2004 olympics an Iranian athlete went on an eating binge to disqualify himself from facing and Israeli opponent because on the recognition of the Israeli state and president of Iran, Mohammad Khatami said it would be "recorded in the history of Iranian glories" and that the nation considered him to be "the champion of the 2004 Olympic Games"

I also shouldnt have to remind you about the '72 games in Munich. Im surprised that an Israeli athletes show up at the olympics with they way they are treated.

OK. Using the word "pervasive," prove THAT. Pervasive would mean that it is widespread to everywhere. I believe you mentioned one incident.

Funny how if it were up to a certain group of posters there would be no Muslims raised in Western culture, hence....

And? This is Iran, not Saudi Arabia or Egypt.. not only do they speak different languages but also are different denominations of Islam.

And that is relevant how?

He's from Somalia, where things are hardly calm. The OP isn't about the ME, it's claiming "radical Islam" is rampant from a paltry two examples.

It is nothing new. So-called athletes from Arab countries & Iran always refuse to face Israeli opponents as they see it as a form of recognition of the state of Israel - what they call "normalization of relations" - happened dozens of times before. In the case of the Egyptians some do face Israeli opponents yet always refuse to shake hands afterwards. Most of the time it's not even up to the athletes themsleves as they are likely to feel threatened by the reaction from their societies in case they do shake hands or even show up. There has been, as usual, a lot of noise on Egyptian social media prior to this fight with many claims and even threats made urging him not to show up. Once he lost the fight the headlines there were claiming it's a big shame that resembles the six-day war defeat. It's always weird to observe how those societies treat these matches between two athletes as if they were wars between the nations. That is however the saddening reality, a very backwards mindset.

The most embarrassing moment here was actually that of the IOC, when it replied to the disgraceful act of this Egyptian by claiming that it's a progress Arab athletes are even showing up to fight against Israeli athletes.
Frankly they should start throwing sanctions at those delegations. I'm not even talking about those Arab countries that are hosting international competitions and then do not allow Israeli athletes to take part or only allow them to do so if the Israeli flag is censored from the competition, that's just absurd.

The IOC sent the Egyptian home for "not behaving in the spirit of the games". Should they have shot him, or bombed his family instead?

The Egyptian Judo team sent him home actually, not the IOC, obviously so to avoid an actual punishment from the IOC.
This is not the first or second time this happens on international competitions with Egypt alone, so yes I expect the IOC to take action against the entire delegation, I deeply apologize if you find it so offensive.

Saudi/Iranian athletes competing in Burhkas is a disgrace. It goes against everything the olympics stands for.

Mo Farah isn't from the ME.

Somalia is often defined as part of the Middle East. But yes he is raised in the UK and is a UK citizen, but he was not born there. And before you freak out and stuff.. he is an idol of mine, absolutely great guy, even though he does try to push that Quron crap on people :)
