Drudge says he will get $317 million from NY, and divided by 1579 hits for NY I have the number right.

RIGHT?

I say HELL YA he was overpaid.

America is INSANE economically.

Not to mention his steroids suspension - a drug cheat as bad as any russian at the olympics

Kind of a falsehood to compare pro athlete salary to a real job. As for comparing to other hitters, in a world of guaranteed millions while on long-term DL, every hitter is overpaid

NYY traded for his first contract. Then signed him to a new one.. that's on them.

But in baseball there is this thing called WAR (Wins above Replacement), it's average value is $7m per 1 WAR. ARod had 61.2 WAR over his career with Yankees. At 61.2 x $7m = 428.4m in value he brought. So ARod was actually under paid.

You're right, but have fun explaining it.

From a statistical perspective, he was one of the best ball players of all time. Rarity has value. Further, baseball players are payed because their skills bring in money for the team owners. How many people came out each year to see him hit, or to see the Yankees win(which he contributed to in a big way)? How many tuned into the Yankees on TV due to him?

Why do you hate capitalism?

I am not willing to stipulate that my emotional state has relevance on the question I have asked.

Overpaid? Probably but he was a legend that changed the game. He raised the bar for power hitting shortstops, he literally raised the bar so high I'm not sure if we will ever see a SS with his same ability.

C. Ripken was good, A-rod was a legend.

Not my money. So not strictly for me to judge if he was overpaid.
