Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning to retire

March 6, 2016

Peyton Manning is going out a champion. Weeks after capturing his second Super Bowl title, the storied career of the NFL's all-time passing leader has come to an end. Manning will announce his retirement on Monday at 1 p.m. ET after 18 seasons in the league, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports according to a source close to Manning. Manning called key Broncos figures including VP John Elway and coach Gary Kubiak on Saturday night to tell them of his plans. ESPN's Chris Mortensen first reported the story.

Not the greatest of his generation (IMHO that would be Brady), but certainly one of the very best and a great competitor. I wonder if Peyton will stay with the Bronco organization in some capacity or test the coaching waters.

And ... Illinois hires Lovie Smith as next football coach

The Illini have nowhere to go but up

Probably a good move on his part. Peyton is definitely one of the greatest but that time has come to and end.

I have no idea where he will end up. Some say working in an NFL organization (odds are not the Broncos,) others say commentary. Tennessee Vols fans are convinced he will spend time there in some capacity for that organization.

Great QB and all around great player. He had a tremendous Hall of Fame career and will be missed.

Good move to go out on top. Time to kick back, relax and plan out his HOF speech.

He should have retired after Indy. Instead he took HGH and posted record numbers in his late 30's after coming off serious neck surgery.

The media will never touch him though.

Yet another veiled whine about the so often persecuted cheater.

best wishes to him. dude did some nice stuff for sick kids, and he seemed to sportsball pretty well. the helping sick kids / seemed like a pretty decent guy stuff was more important for my perception of him. hope that he enjoys retirement.

Voters should not vote in Peyton Manning into the Hall of Fame until he admits to using HGH. The truth will come out sooner or later. Peyton, just tell the truth! We know your wife isn't using HGH, why was it shipped to her?

Americans are forgiving in nature. Just admit it and the healing process can begin.

Meh, I say prove it. HGH use in the NFL is wide spread and rarely targeted. He's a high profile player which is the only reason it got interest.
