1. Remember Stephen Neal, offensive guard for the NE Patriots..
Never played a down of football in College but was a 2-time National Heavyweight
Champion Division I and 4-time All-American..He's got three Super Bowl rings..
2. The other notable is Carlton Haselrig, 3-time D-1 and 3-time D-2 Heavyweight Champion who played five years in the NFL at guard also..

Both men credit wrestling for their ability to move their feet and fight hand-to-hand and go upper-body..

You may have heard that the Olympics has gotten rid of Wrestling in 2016, both freestyle and Greco-Roman..
I am not as up in arms as those like the legendary Dan Gable and will be happy to toss out my two cents worth..

There is a huge difference between those two forms of the art of wrestling and FOLKSTYLE wrestling,
which is on a fabulous rebound all over the Nation in high school and college..

I prefer to focus on the positive direction that wrestling can take our youth and the mental discipline and character it builds..
It is a blood sport like no other IMO..Once it's in your blood, it's there forever, like going to the gun range I guess..

This year's D-1 tournament is in Oklahoma City on March 20-22 2014, Thursday-Saturday, also the first weekend of NCAAB March Madness..
There are some great web-sites out there for high school and collegiate wrestling I will post in the future ..

Young Ladies, are you ready for some fine-tuned young men at any particular weight class you desire??

InterMat Wrestling

Great web-site--easy to navigate--you'll get stopped at different points where you have to pay--
There's a new cult of groupie wrestling gals out there..
I'm sure these clean young men wouldn't mind showing you their moves .

Didn't wrestling get reinstated I was hoping the much more internationally popular sport of squash be selected but wrestling-which is certainly more traditional got back in

My father in law's alma mater-Cornell-has one of the finest wrestling teams in the nation-and no athletic scholarships. I believe they had a guy who won three weight classes or maybe four

You could be correct Turtle dude..
You speak of Kyle Dake, 4-time National Champion at progressively higher weight classes each year..
Never been done before--141, 149, 157, 165..
Hopefully with the Olympics in Rio, we can get the times worked out better with television..

For me, it's all about folkstyle..
I enjoy Greco-Roman since it's upper-body and so on but folkstyle is unto its own..
Freestyle is a boring 5-minute period I watch only because I love the sport..
Nothing about the gut-wrench is exciting..

As for high school, most experts now have Pennsylvania #1 and Ohio #2..
Intermat does a great job of keeping up with rankings..
Holding our weight over Thanksgiving was never a lot of fun..
The sport has advanced tremendously in technique and athleticism..

Once again, TurtleDude to the rescue..

Here's another link with the actual vote for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and rule changes in 2016, with MMA in mind..

Good talk on Cornell TD..
Though losing Dake, they are ranked seventh in the Nation in the Division I tournament style team points;
and have seven out of ten wrestlers who are ranked..They've got a decent shot at a top three trophy..

Cornell people always fill at least one section at a National arena and I recall them all wearing the same color T-shirt,
usually RED with a Big White C on it..You can't miss 'em..
It's neat to see the alliances form at the National Tourney, such as Penn State and Cornell and/or any Eastern team versus the Midwest..

Even at Des Moines, hosted by Iowa State out of Ames--IA last year, it was everyone in the Nation against the University of Iowa at times..
The coaches behavior--Brands brothers--both multi-time National Champions, who are Gable disciples, can really grate on me/most people..

My wife went to UNI--University of Northern Iowa--another damn
midwest teacher's college--or as I came to learn it, University of No Intelligence .

I coached at the youth level, now all my boys are in highschool still wrestling despite the football coach's disapproval, its in their blood and its too bad the coach doesn't get it.

That's too bad on the football coach..
There are three highly ranked high school heavyweights in the Nation who have College Football scholarships;
next year to Michigan State, Nebraska, and Stanford--not too shabby huh..
I'm sure your boys know all about the Intermat Wrestling website as well as the one for your state..
Rankings and honorable mentions are important to the kids, with their hard work and sacrifice..

The sport has "grown" the last ten years..
We now have 220, a football weight and good to have a body on the 275-pounder besides the coaches..
The recent shake-up in weight classes added a higher weight and took out a lower weight..
Also for your football guy, we lift more now than ever, if that's his problem..
Have your kids joke with him about the play-book, to jam him that they're keeping up mentally..

I don't like kids going two classes down after football season in weight loss, coach's faux outrage..
If your kid is at 175, don't go through 170 to 160 unless he's a star..
Making the varsity by dropping lower is the flip side though, I get his perspective there..
Eat a smart diet plan, lift, get good grades, be happy, then Mom will be happy--very important..

Big Ten Channel--Full House at Carver-Hawkeye with #'s 1 and 3 Penn State at Iowa..
#3 Iowa defeats #1 Penn state 22-16 .

Big-Ten Network is rebroadcasting duel between Iowa and Penn state..
Here we go with the introductions .

For wrestling aficianados like radioman, Iowa has held out there #4 Clark at 125 against #3 Megaludis
and put in a 4-time HS champ from a Nebraska Catholic HS, though he is from Council Bluffs..

As always, poor decision by coach Brands to put his Freshman in the down position against the strength of PSU..
Megaludis has the riding point, up 4-1..
3-0 in team score .

At 133, #3 Ramos, 2nd last two years, against stud red-shirt freshman #15 Gulibon..
Gomez is an Illinois kid .

Gomez launches Gulibon for the fall..
6-3 Iowa..
At 141, Penn State has a true freshman ranked #2 who has beaten former #1 ranked and two-time champ Steiber from Ohio State .

#2 Retherford versus #9 Dziewa, both Pennsylvania true freshmen..Dziewza up 2-1 with an early takedown..

escape by retherford only point in 2nd period..2-2..
Iowa takes neutral in 3rd, scared of Penn State in top position..
retherford gets the takedown--wins 4-2..
choosing top--down--neutral is a real crap-shoot.
6-6 team tie.

One of the biggest college tournaments these days is the Southern Scuffle, Jan.1st/2nd, at Chattanooga, TEN..

Though I'm a Midwest Wrestling fan, Coach Sanderson at PSU is the best..
Pennsylvania high schools are still the best and Cale gets the best recruits..
His kids easily escape from the bottom position and pound on you in the top position, besides turning you..
They're decent in the offensive neutral position but their counters in the neutral are unmatched .

149 >> PSU wins a battle of unranked 6-1 to give PSU a 9-6 lead..
157 >> top-ranked St. John from IA, workmanlike, gets regular 10-3 decision as PSU does his job not getting majored (losing by 8)
9-9 at half-time (5 matches)

#4 Moore from IA loses 3-12 to #1 Taylor from PSU at 165..
Now we have #3 Brown/PSU against #6 Evans/IA at 174 .

A very tough Matt Brown rides Evans out in the 3rd period for a 4-1 win..Now 16-9 Penn state..
And two other returning National Champions are also back at 174, Perry from Okie st. and How from OK..

Now we have #1 Ruth/PSU against #2 Lofthouse/IA at 184.

#1 Ruth wins by major, 20-9 PSU..
At 197, #3 McIntosh is up 7-1 in the first period..
McIntosh by a major, PSU 24-9..
Btw, 15,996 all-time dual record when PSU was at Pitt a while back this month .

Great wrestling duel today between #1 Penn State at Michigan.
Sold-out smaller gym at Ann Arbor.
Five matches still left on BTN.
This is folk-style time of the year, ending with the NCAAs in Oklahoma City, March 20--22 .

Big Ten conference championships at Madison, Wisconsin this year; March 8 and 9--NCAA qualifier.
Easily the toughest wrestling conference, though the sport is great all over the Nation .

David Taylor is certainly one of the best in the Nation, on right now at 165, finalist for 3 years.
My wife has the tape rolling so I can study later.
Penn State riding on the top are beasts and punsih their oopponents instead of take-down/let 'em go .

Great College Wrestling duel just ended on BTN.
In front of a packed house at the sports pavilion in Minnesota, #3 Minnesota just beat #1 Penn state 19-18.

Which included #1 ranked 197 Minnesota Schiller losing 8-4 and dominated by #5 Penn State McIntosh,
as well as the #1 ranked Penn State Brown losing to #6 ranked Storley.

Minnesota wins the Big Ten "DUALS" championship.
NWCA duals Friday Feb. 17 on BTN--Big Ten Network.
Individual Championships March 20-22 in Oklahoma City .
