Fort Worth cop who shot woman dead had 2004 assault charge

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A white Fort Worth police officer who shot and killed a black woman in her home last month disclosed during his police department job interview that he was attracted to what he perceived to be the action and adventure of working in law enforcement, and that he was charged with simple assault in 2004.

Aaron Dean acknowledged during the 2017 hiring process that he touched a female friend inappropriately in a library at the University of Texas at Arlington, and said he pleaded no-contest to the misdemeanor charge, according to a video of the interview obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram .

And this self-admitted creep & groper was hired to protect the citizens of Ft Worth?

The stars at night are big & bright...

Do you think certain misdemeanors should prevent someone from being a police officer? Or perhaps all of them. Its an interesting topic I guess.

Would you hire an admitted groper, give him a badge & a gun & expect him to be a saint?

If we were to wait for saints, how many police officers do you think would be hired? Do you believe that a man or woman's character is characterized by the worse thing he or she has ever done? Do you think all officers with any admitted criminal histories should be fired from police forces?

According to the story he said it was more a case of misunderstanding social cues. Which when you are in college at 18 can happen fairly often. Given it was a misdemeanor I don't really see it being a huge issue. Now his story could not be true, and his behavior could have continued later on, but I am not sure if a misdemeanor at 18 should disqualify someone from serving their community.

I know that many departments have opened their hiring guidelines given that they often cannot find enough people with squeaky clean records to join law enforcement.
