Texas: shooting at college party leaves two dead and 12 injured | US news | The Guardian

Two people were killed and 12 others injured when a gunman opened fire at an off-campus college party in Texas around midnight on Saturday.

Authorities were searching on Sunday for the gunman. They believed he may have been targeting just one person at the party of about 750 people outside Greenville, some 15 miles from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Looks like someone was targeted for a hit, gangland style.

Just another day in the USA, hey.

What, exactly, makes this shooting political? I can assure that such a shooting is very much illegal in Texas - do you object to that?

It was at a college party. They were probably arguing what party was going to pay for their student debt.

Texas also tends to execute murderers at a much higher rate than other states

It is still far too low. With over 1K homicide convictions per year in Texas if the DP was used in even 10% of those cases that would be (at least) 100 executions per year. Texas falls far short of that.

Interesting statistics.

"In the United States, there are several different, but common, definitions of mass shootings. The Congressional Research Service defines mass shootings, as multiple, firearm, homicide incidents, involving 4 or more victims at one or more locations close to one another. The FBI definition is essentially the same.

There are also important exclusions. For example, if 10 people are shot but only 2 dies, the incident is not a mass shooting."

so this isn't even a mass shooting. only in America.

crazy, huh?

Great. Another well trained gun owner shooting everybody but the intended target...

There is not a legal definition of "mass shooting" in the United States...

There is of "mass killing" though... and that is three or more killed in an incident.

This wasn't even a mass killing as 14 people were shot.

The other number we NEVER discuss is number of Americans injured in shootings.

Agreed... I think that most people with common sense know that a mass shooting is when a gunman targets multiple people with the intent on killing as many as they can... the number of actual dead should not matter.
