As many call for tighter gun laws, Texas''' set to loosen up

Beginning Sept. 1, it will be easier to carry and store guns in Texas, home to five of the 20 deadliest shootings in the United States since 1900.

Ten new pro-gun laws will take effect in Texas in four weeks, less than a month after 22 people died in a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso.

Gov. Greg Abbott signed the measures after they were passed in a 2019 legislative session that the National Rifle Association, or NRA, called "highly successful" at the time, celebrating that the measures "will further loosen Texas' permissive gun laws" and would send the "gun control crowd home empty-handed."
=================================================
I've had a problem with Texas' gun control policies since at least 1970 when I had a confrontation about guns with a TX citizen at a trade show. It may be in their wild-west culture, but these people have some deeep probleems.

Speaking as a born and raised Texan, you simply do not understand our undying and deep obsession with guns. The vast majority of Texans are very much of the "you can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers" opinion. No, they will not be changing anytime soon.

Being pro-gun control in Texas is like being gay in the 1960's, you just keep it to yourself because of the social stigma.

Um! were not the new laws scheduled to go into effect before the shooting occurred?
I live in Texas and have no issues with our gun laws!
I personally do not carry, but know lots of people who do.

So you want to continue to protect mass murderers who want to kill people in churches, schools, who live in apartments, and during disasters by outlawing anyone being able to stop them as a matter of pro-mass murder public policy.

Why are progressives so pro-mass murder? Why are you in your message?

My guess is that unlike the Democratic Party and most progressives, most Texans don't love mass murders, murderers, and rapists. The Republican Party is anti-criminal. The Democratic Party is pro-criminal.

The Republican Party wants murderers shot. The Democratic Party wants murderers protected and law abiding citizens shot. It is that simple.

I can understand why a person being pro-rape and pro-murder probably should keep their mouth shut about it in public. That could really scare some people about that person - and should.

its astonishing people like you think this is an intelligent argument, just making up complete fiction to attack the poopyhead liberals.

Good, let texas allow everybody to carry guns everywhere and watch the death toll rise. Or watch all those "I would have stopped the shooter' run around away screaming if they were actually faced with that situation. Or wait until someone gets a bit jumpy and irrational and start shooting innocent people. Because humans in general are a holes, great idea giving everybody a gun

Tell me, how did Texas' lax gun control work out for all those people in the Sutherland Springs church?

Why do you support what happened to them?

From the article

Texas is home to almost 1.4 million holders of active firearm licenses.

Texas had previously permitted approved foster parents to keep licensed firearms in their homes, but only if weapons and ammunition were stored in separate locked locations. The new law allows guns and ammunition to be stored together in the same locked location.

A new law removes "the premises of a church, synagogue or other established place of religious worship" from the list of locations where carrying a licensed handgun is a misdemeanor. Beginning Sept. 1, gun owners will be allowed to carry properly licensed handguns into a church unless the church explicitly declares that it bans weapons on its grounds.

A new law expands state regulations that allow licensed gun owners to transport and store their weapons in parked vehicles on school grounds by banning school districts from specifying how they must be stored.

A new law will ban landlords from including "no firearms" clauses in leases. The NRA-ILA said such clauses violate "the Second Amendment rights of renters."

Texas will now allow gun owners to carry their guns with them while evacuating from a state- or local-declared emergency — even if they don't have valid licenses to carry.

The new Texas gun laws will not make anyone any less safe then they currently are!

New Texas Laws (2019)

Several new laws relating to firearms were passed in the 86th Texas Legislature (2019).

Note: Each of the new laws listed below will take effect on Sept. 1, 2019.

HB 121 — Relating to a defense to prosecution for the offense of trespass by certain persons carrying handguns.
Provides a defense for License To Carry holders who unknowingly enter establishments that prohibit guns with signage if the LTC holder promptly leaves the property after being asked.
HB 302 — Relating to the carrying, storage, or possession of a firearm or firearm ammunition by certain persons on certain residential or commercial property.
Prohibits residential lease agreements from restricting the possession of firearms by residents or their guests.
HB 1143 — Relating to the transportation or storage of a handgun or other firearm or ammunition by a handgun license holder in a school parking area.
Updates the Texas Education Code to prevent school districts from regulating the manner in which a licensed person's handgun, firearm, or ammunition is stored in their vehicle in a school parking area.
HB 1177 — Relating to carrying a handgun during a state of disaster.
Prevents citizens from being charged with a crime for carrying a handgun without a License To Carry while evacuating from a declared state or local disaster area, or while returning to that area. Also gives disaster shelters the option to accommodate evacuees with firearms.
HB 1387 — Relating to the number of school marshals that may be appointed to serve on a public school campus or at a private school.
Loosens restrictions on how many armed school marshals a school district or the governing body of an open-enrollment charter school may appoint.
HB 1791 — Relating to the carrying of handguns by license holders on property owned or leased by a governmental entity.
Updates language in the Texas Government Code related to the carrying of firearms on property owned or leased by a government entity.
HB 2363 — Relating to permitting certain foster homes to store firearms and ammunition in the same locked location.
Updates specifications for how foster parents may store their firearms in a foster home.
SB 535 — Relating to the carrying of a handgun by a license holder on the premises of certain places of religious worship.
Clarifies the Texas Penal Code by removing "a church, synagogue, or other established place of religious worship" from the list of prohibited locations for carrying a firearm.
SB 741 — Relating to restrictive covenants regarding firearms or firearm ammunition.
Prohibits a property owners association from prohibiting or restricting the possession, transportation, or storage of a firearm or ammunition. Also prohibits restrictions on the lawful discharge of a firearm.

I like how NBC has to go back 119 years to get their scare quote “home to five of the 20 deadliest shootings in the United States since 1900”. Seems...desperate.

Good for Texas. At least they aren't caving into the leftist hysteria to infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens.

I also had a problem with Texas gun laws a few decades ago. They were far too restrictive and infringed on my Second Amendment right, which is why I moved to Alaska instead of Texas in 1991. In Alaska I can carry openly or concealed any weapon I desire, no permits required. As it should be.

Just the fact that Texas has firearm licenses at all is an infringement against the Second Amendment. Do we require licenses to speak our minds or to associate with others? Then there should never be a requirement to license any individual right.

Texas is just getting on board with what States like Arizona has already inacted.

yes, AZ had a mass shooting a few years ago in Tucson. Jared Lee L. has been diagnosed with schizophrenia -- a brain disorder with strong genetic roots.

Or, maybe they realize having legal gun holders to deter or confront the illegal ones MIGHT be a better idea than counting the bullets in a magazine or banning scary looking weapons.

such tragedies often cause those on the fence to emotionally support more government power to get more "safety". Those who want more government power (progressives) support just about any thing or disaster that accomplishes that.

I think it's the almost religious fervor with which progs view goodness of government. In their eyes we peasants need nothing further than its flawless and beneficent wonderfulness to keep us happy and safe.

Recently a minister used a gun to stop a criminal in his church. You want him in prison for having a gun.

THAT is the reality for which your rant and make personal attacks.

It is extremely rare that any Democrat/progressive will defend their position. Instead they just try to divert with personal insults. I see the goals of your messages as ignorant, fundamentally evil, fascist and mostly those of a submissive fearful and totally controlled by the propaganda of the fascist-corporate super rich with you as their peasant chump as they see you - and laugh at you.

Don't worry, no one is ever going to force you to defend anyone and you can express your support for mass murderers and rapists in your messages' agenda all you want to. Your side has not being able to outlaw free speech yet.
