The San Antonio City Council voted to ban Chick-fil-A from the city’s airport due to the company’s anti-LGBTQ history.
On Thursday, the council approved a seven-year contract with Paradies Lagardère to open new restaurants in the San Antonio International Airport’s Terminal A, including Smoke Shack and Boss Bagels and Coffee, according to local station KTSA.
The agreement initially included a Chick-fil-A, but the council voted 6-4 that they would approve the contract “provided that [Paradies Lagardère] exclude the Chick-fil-A concept,” according to the council’s website.
“With this decision, the City Council reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of equality and inclusion,” Councilman Roberto Treviño said in a statement after the vote. “San Antonio is a city full of compassion, and we do not have room in our public facilities for a business with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior.”

While I fully support gay rights and SSM, it would seem Chick-fil-A has a slam dunk religious discrimination lawsuit. In general, I oppose the concept of government licensing being based upon political issues. That's KGB style police-state government. Support the state ideology or you're out of business.

The city loves "equality" except when it comes to Chick-Fil-A.

Hypocrites.

I hate to get involved in the political brouhaha, but I'l be damned if those born agains don't make some great chicken, keep a squeaky-clean place, and provide cheerful & helpful customer service. I'm a fan of them.

Most people just want a g'damn sandwich that they can enjoy without the identity politics b.s.
It's their loss. I was just at an airport and watched passengers arrive and flock to the Chick-Fil-A in the terminal. Longest line in the place.

Besides the chicken itself, their Chicken Soup & Peach shakes aren't half bad either!

I'm glad I've got several locations near me.

In the past chik Fil A has had a problem in airports, not due to their anti-gay marriage stance, but because they are closed on sundays. Many airports have a daily open schedule mandate for stores and food service.

I enjoyed a lemonade!
Never tried it, actually. But I bet it's "southern sweet", like the peach shakes; which is to say super sweet.

I love their peach shakes, but whoa baby - they're a sugar overdose! The peach shakes I get at an indie ice cream parlour are far less sweet. I think it's a north/south thing; Southerners love sweet tea, so I assume they also love sweet ice cream shakes.

You know, that's an excellent point. I was wondering the same.

Politics be damned, they have the best chicken sammich. If they won’t open Sunday, I will wait until Monday.

Waiting for all the people who said that Christian bakers should be imprisoned for not serving gay weddings to defend Chic-fil-A here. ...

Yeah, that "Sunday Closed" stuff is a PITA. For a lot of us, Sunday is a day we like to get out.

So they are open on Sunday at airports?

I needed to grab something from Hobby Lobby today and then doh! It's Sunday!

What's a 'Chick-fil-A'? I gather from your OP that they're a fast-food outlet that for some obscure reason is tied to religious objections to gays, but why? Never heard of them up here.

Funny. It's like turning the clock back to the 1950's, which I admit does have it's charm.

It's a Christian owned fast food chicken chain. They gained notoriety when it was found the owner heavily supported quite a few political PACs that lobbied against gay marriage, as gay marriage was being taken up in the state courts a few years ago.

Who's loss?

The SJW, virtue-signalling airport who was bullied by the LGBTQ community like a pee-pants kid in a schoolyard who gets his lunch money stolen on a daily basis.

Ah, thanks. Sounds like the business is operated according to Christian values.
Their choice, good on them for maintaining their beliefs and accepting the limits those beliefs put on their operation.

Yikes.

What do they lose? All those peope you saw lining up, will they just decide not to eat at the airport and wait until they get where they're going? In my experience, I only eat at airports when I'm waiting for a flight, not when I arrive on one.

Yeah, that's my feeling as well. As long as they treat their employees and customers lawfully and respectfully, the owner's politics is his business.

Never heard of such a shake.

Airports are a target-rich environment. They're not thinking with their heads on this no brainer for turning profits.
I find it really amazing to watch businesses and politicians absolutely cower in abject fear of the LBGTQ bullies.

I would think the no Sunday thing at the airport would be a deal killer.

In terms of the comparisons to the bakers....as long as they do not refuse to sell the product they normally make to gay people, I see no comparison.

Not sure what the hype is over their chicken, though. It is tasty, but to me, not cravable.
