Chick-fil-A Blocked from San Antonio Airport Due to 'Legacy of Anti-LGBTQ Behavior'

I agree fully. Chick-fil-A should also be able to fire all females, demanding they go home to be barefoot and pregnant. No Blacks can work there other than as slaves. Male workers can be issued firearms to continue the US genocide against Native Americans. Signs banning slant eyes and gooks will fill their windows. I do love the ole times!! And don't I miss them!!

What nonsense. There are no allegations of the company discriminating against anyone in employment or customers.

Why should people be deprived of the choice because of a very, very small minority of bullies with a big megaphone?
Are you talking about the people deprived of the choice of eating at the restaurant they’d like or the people deprived of the choice of marrying the person they’d like? ;)

The former. But ironic that those who demand choice aim to remove it from others, n'est ces pas?

An airport should grant concessions ONLY on the restaurants' ability to generate patronage.

If people oppose a restaurant's political/social views, they are free to boycott it.

But those people who support or are indifferent to those views should have the right to enjoy the food.

This kind of political correctness is literally destroying our country.

Yes, and that irony goes both ways, which was my point. I think most people on both sides would consider marriage more important than fast food though.

You figured that out, did you? Okay, so you never got it. It's okay for some to be clueless. Not everyone can be bright. [Waves to Vance]

I hate to get involved in the political brouhaha, but I'l be damned if those born agains don't make some great chicken, keep a squeaky-clean place, and provide cheerful & helpful customer service. I'm a fan of them.

If they supported White nationalists groups, claiming their religion was their reasoning, would you still help them fund that crusade? (they donate a lot of money to anti-LGBT groups)

I ate there once. It was a chicken sandwich. Nothing special.

Don't eat there. Problem solved.

This has happened to Chick-fil-A at a few places now. It's a bit ridiculous that people go after them so hard core. They don't discriminate in their hiring or serving practices at all. The old owner had said something once about what he thought marriage was, but since Chick-fil-A doesn't make laws, it was largely inconsequential. If you like Chick-fil-A, go there and enjoy. If not, then don't. I think they happen to have great food for a fast food restaurant. Love me that spicy chicken sandwich.

I don't.

I also support a public or private entity deciding not to associate with businesses that support discrimination.

The San Antonio City Council voted to ban Chick-fil-A from the city’s airport due to the company’s anti-LGBTQ history.
On Thursday, the council approved a seven-year contract with Paradies Lagardère to open new restaurants in the San Antonio International Airport’s Terminal A, including Smoke Shack and Boss Bagels and Coffee, according to local station KTSA.
The agreement initially included a Chick-fil-A, but the council voted 6-4 that they would approve the contract “provided that [Paradies Lagardère] exclude the Chick-fil-A concept,” according to the council’s website.
“With this decision, the City Council reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of equality and inclusion,” Councilman Roberto Treviño said in a statement after the vote. “San Antonio is a city full of compassion, and we do not have room in our public facilities for a business with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior.”

While I fully support gay rights and SSM, it would seem Chick-fil-A has a slam dunk religious discrimination lawsuit. In general, I oppose the concept of government licensing being based upon political issues. That's KGB style police-state government. Support the state ideology or you're out of business.

I'm worried hell has frozen over - can anyone check for me? - because I basically agree with you here. I'm not sure about the merits of a lawsuit, but IMO using the stated reason as an excuse not to grant a concession in the airport is BS, nonsense. As I'm sure someone has said already in this thread, if you don't like Chick-fil-a don't eat there (I don't because I can't eat gluten, but my wife loves it - their ice tea is good, though!), but there's no evidence the company discriminates against LGBT.

My big problem with them is they close on Sundays. How dare a company give its employees a day off! When I'm on the road on Sunday they need to serve ME! My favorite taco shop does the same thing. Makes us so angry when we bike on Sundays and drive by hoping to eat, and this family owned business takes a day off for themselves, so they can do things like take a Sunday bike ride!

I was blown away to recently find Arby's has a Rueben Sandwich! It's not sit-down restaurant quality, but it was surprisingly good by fast food standards, especially when they're doing the "2 for $7" special. Not bad, with a coupla' potato patties.

Where have you been? Arby's has had Reubens on the menu since forever. I think it was probably one of their first non-roast beef sandwiches because I remember eating them more than a decade ago.

Yeah, not bad. I personally like the Loaded Italian and when I feel like eating "light", I get their turkey gyro. They load it up with turkey!

I never eat their fries because I love their onion rings.

I imagine there were a lot of restaurants in the south in the days of Bull Connor and other such delightful people that made great chicken. Would you have visited those restaurants too, while having to leave your Black wife outside to be ridiculed, beaten, maybe raped?

I reckon it SHOULD be said at least once the Chick Fil A does not HAVE an anti gay marriage stance. The business has never been implicated in discrimination towards homosexuals in any way.

That's correct AFAIK, which is why I never considered joining the 'boycott' against them, which from what I've seen has done wonders for their business, at least in the south. They're all jammed in this area.

One key thing for me is it just appears they treat employees pretty well. They're usually polite and provide good service, and that doesn't happen with a company that craps on its staff IME.

Most people just want a g'damn sandwich that they can enjoy without the identity politics b.s.
It's their loss. I was just at an airport and watched passengers arrive and flock to the Chick-Fil-A in the terminal. Longest line in the place.

Meh...if they didn't want to politicize their restaurant, they would have done like most smart businesses would have, and kept their mouth shut and just made sandwiches. I assume making their stand was worth the loss of business...sincerely, without malice: good for them.

Until you've had a Box car Betty's chicken sandwich., you haven't had a chicken sandwich.

The city loves "equality" except when it comes to Chick-Fil-A.

Hypocrites.

More retarded right wing logic. You people just throw out the dumbest deflections, like this typical "you are intolerant of intolerance so you are intolerant"

Right wingers truly are the scum of the earth

Airports are a target-rich environment. They're not thinking with their heads on this no brainer for turning profits.
I find it really amazing to watch businesses and politicians absolutely cower in abject fear of the LBGTQ bullies.

They cower to the majority of people in this country who are not racists and bigots, which is the majority of this country, those that defend the LGBT people, because that group alone doesn't have the number but they have the support from non religious bigoted assholes

Not in my experience.

I had misread your post. I thought your visit at the airport was yesterday (Sunday) so I wondered why they would compromise their long standards of being closed but be open at an airport. Then I realized you hadn't mentioned the day so my question was answered. My apologies on the confusion. :peace

My big problem with them is they close on Sundays.

It's likely just coincidence, but it seems that often times I'll be with the family and we'll be looking to stop someplace to eat and I'll suggest Chick-fil-A only to be told that it's Sunday.

I suppose Red States should refuse license and permits to all Starbucks if business licenses are to be made political. Certainly, no Amazon warehouses should be allowed in any Red state.

Yes, and that irony goes both ways, which was my point. I think most people on both sides would consider marriage more important than fast food though.

Alas, they should not be...married together. Most folks get that, which is to say, false dichotomy.

Wow, how butt hurt over a chicken sandwich!
