Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D) is raking in cash in his Texas Senate race against Sen. Ted Cruz (R), bringing in $9.1 million in August alone, according to a new federal filing from ActBlue.

The three-term House Democrat turned heads earlier this year when he raised $10.4 million overall between April and June. Cruz brought in about $4.1 million in the same timeframe, and has raised a total of about $23.7 million so far this year.

Trump has been campaigning for 'Lyin' Ted' which could be Cruz' kiss of death.

If Beto O'Rourke can actually pull off a miracle and win this seat, the Dems just may have a new Obama on their hands and a candidate for 2020.

But the cynical observer that I sometimes am, I would not bet on Texas rejecting Cruz no matter how much money is raised against him.

I wouldn't be surprised if the White House gets requests from GOP campaign managers that Trump not show up in their districts.

Yup. In many ways Trump has become like the black marks that put on the doors of houses harboring plague victims in the Middle Ages: DO NOT ENTER.

I just can't read the name "Beto O'Rourke" without remembering the now defunct (at least I think it is) Carlos Murphy's chain if Mexican restaurants.

I don't think people in Texas are going to vote for a guy with 2 DWI's and a burglary record. Burgling Beto kind of writes itself.

Why not? They voted for the country club clown and DUI enthusiast George W. Bush.

Re: O'Rourke rakes in $9.1M online in August

Yeah, we know a few people who are helping their campaign out directly, and we've given a few times. He's putting in some serious effort to get out there and meet and greet. I see a quite a few beto for texas shirts and bumper stickers, and I don't out much.

Texas is steadily going more Democrat, and use to be Democrat back in the day, and a Texas Democrat isn't going to look like a national one anyway...they will likely be more moderate as are many state races.
But is this the day it flips? Maybe...but if not now, it seems to be on track to flip in the future regardless.

Where is Cardinal with his whatabout when you need him?

Re: O'Rourke rakes in $9.1M online in August

Have someone explain 'whataboutism' to you. You don't seem to know what it means.

LOL I know exactly what it means, you just tossed up a whatabout?!?! George Bush and are now running away from it like you didn't do it.

Just own it and quit trying to play it down.

No, you clearly don't and, no, I didn't.

You stated that they won't vote for someone with a DUI. I demonstrated that they already did.

Please learn what terms mean before continually embarrassing yourself here and misusing them.

Please focus. The subject is O'Rourke, not Bush.

Re: O'Rourke rakes in $9.1M online in August

The subject of what I replied to was whether Texans would voted for someone with a DUI.

Please get less upset when your ignorance is exposed.

I have no reason to get upset, you matter less than almost anyone else I interact with. BTW, Quinnipiac polling data completed on 9/17 shows Cruz up by +9. Good luck in November.

By the way, he's up by two from more recent data: https://www.texastribune.org/2018/09/19/beto-orourke-leads-cruz-new-poll-texas-senate-race/

It's sad that you use terms that you don't understand and then pout when called out on that.

Womp womp.

What's sad is you can't discuss any issue, anywhere on this board without characterizing the person opposite you.

O'Rourke is going to lose. As more people make up their mind Cruz has very little ground to go over the 50% mark and O'Rourke needs all the undecided and some of Cruz's voters.

Texans are not like 'normal' people & can't be predicted.

What's fun is that every time I point our your dishonesty, you go and demonstrate it.

I have no idea who's going to win or lose. Unlike you, I'm not emotionally invested in the outcome.

Yup. Another Texan.

I heard someone describe Texans as being 'bats**t crazy'.

I used to travel to TX on business, mainly Houston area. One evening I had a customer out to dinner at a very well-known restaurant in town, Brennan's. I requested non-smoking. The place was mostly empty so they had closed down the designated area for smokers. Well, in come a group of well-heeled businessmen & get seated at a table very near us. Of course they started smoking. When I complained to the waiter, the group of Texans got a big kick out of that & ordered themselves a round of cigars. This is why I don't go to TX any more.
