NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Democratic congressman aiming to unseat Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz in Texas has pulled even in the race, a Reuters poll found, a spark of hope for a party seeking a Senate majority to curb President Donald Trump’s agenda.

The Reuters/Ipsos/UVA Center for Politics Poll released on Wednesday of several competitive U.S. Senate races offered a mixed picture of Democrats’ chances in November of winning the two seats they would need to take control of that chamber.

Wouldn't that beat all: the House & the Senate, just in time to strop the Republicans from looting Medicare & Social Security in order to pay for their massive tax cut debt.

Don't count on it. Last Quinnipiac poll last week had Cruz at +9.

Are you suggesting that if (when?) the demorats gained a congressional majority that we would have a "massive tax increase"?

Historic win declared in Senate District 19

Flores defeats Gallego in Senate District 19

Voters elected political newcomer Pete Flores to the Texas Senate on Tuesday, flipping a Democratic district red for the first time in 139 years and bolstering Republicans’ supermajority in the chamber ahead of the November elections.

A retired game warden, Flores defeated former state and U.S. Rep. Pete Gallego for the Senate District 19 seat after receiving backing from some of the state’s most prominent politicians, including Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and U.S. Sens John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.

No. But the Republican tax windfall for the rich would likely get adjusted & they could save Social Security & Medicare from the promised Republican budget ax. Got to pay for the money we're sending ExxonMobil & the Waltons somehow.

The most recent poll, Quinnipiac has Cruz up by 9.

You've had four polls so far in Texas in September, the above, your Ipsos poll which showed Beto up by 2 and two others which showed Cruz with a 3 and 4 point lead. All four polls have a margin of error of plus or minus 4 points. Personally, I don't put much stock in one poll, I like to look at trends and average several polls together to get a clearer and I think more accurate view on where the race stands at this point in time.

Averaging puts Cruz ahead by 3.5 points, still within the margin of error. That means Cruz could be leading by as much as 7.5 points or be behind by 0.5 or one half of a point. Still very close even with the Quinnipiac poll added to the mix. One doesn't expect a race this close. But Beto has run an excellent campaign and Cruz is Cruz, kind of stiff. In other words Beto has charisma, Cruz not much. That won't effect the die hards of either party, but could draw some independents, the non-affiliated towards Beto. Which is happening. Look at Question 4 in the above poll. O'Rourke is leading among the independents 51-47 in the poll. then go to question 5 and 6 and check out each candidates favorable/unfavorable numbers among the non-affiliated. Beto has a positive favorable view among independents, Cruz is in the negative. This is why this race is so close in my opinion.

A very interesting race.

You're gonna get one anyway. You're going to pay more for everything that comes from China and the Fed. gov't. will be collecting the difference.

I'm not opposed to the federal government funding its largesse via taxation but I am against ever more federal power and expense. Unfortunately, we are being asked to choose either a representative from the party for a bigger federal government or the from party for a huge federal government.

While I do support Beto over the slimball Cruz, I do not think the Dems will take the Senate, close but not enough. Good news is you will probably get the House.
