We finally got a little moisture in Tucson. I don't want to get overly excited but it was drizzling when I went to bed and it's still drizzling this morning. There was even a little thunder last night.

It's been bone dry out here for a while and this little squirt of rain is a godsend. I have a couple of barrel cacti that were starting to look a little peaked so that will tell you how dry it's been.

congrats to you and may the drizzle continue

we have been flooded in many surrounding regions this year and once again today we are overcast

Are you allowed to water outdoor plants there?

Good news. After the past few weeks out there, I'm sure it's a welcome relief.

Yes. That being said, most people don't have a lot of plants that require much water. Cactus and Mesquite trees do amazingly well with very little water. Golf courses tend to be the only place you commonly find grass. My next door neighbor does have grass in the back yard but it's a patch about 20'x50'.

PHX hasn't gotten a drop, the monsoons are just missing us....

So frustrating...enjoy the monsoon, it is a glorious thing.

The hell? How did you guys get it and all we get here in L.A. is record setting heat?

Isn't the monsoons more of an August thing?? I remember many years back, When I lived in Tucson, We would have one of those famous lightning storms, I would race down to a Clients office and Disconnect the mainframe from all of the terminals,, Otherwise somehow lightning always seemed to find a path to the I/O board and fry everything...They were wicked..

Yeah, but your heat isn't 116 degrees for 5 days straight.....if you had that, you would get monsoons...but, probably not because of the ocean.

Looks at the Bright side, you don't have Cut Grass and Wash the Car every week like I do.

We are one state over in New Mexico and also are waiting for a good monsoon with arms stretched wide to welcome it. So far a few areas have gotten rain but most of us are still waiting. Even in Albuquerque, parts of the city have gotten wet while others are bone dry.

Interesting. Haven't been to the area since my father in law passed (they used to spend winters there - outside Mesa, actually). The golf courses he used were mostly sand/dirt except for the putting greens.

The night sky in that part of the country is breathtaking, and so is the drive up to Sedona. I need to get back out there.

Hah!

When the cacti are drooping, you know it's dry!

My daughter and I were down in New Mexico for a backpacking trip in the Pecos in late June, we also spent a couple of days in Santa Fe. Driving out of Santa Fe on I-25, we hit one of the worst storms I have ever driven through between Las Vegas NM and Wagon Mound. There was 3 inches of hail on the interstate (so much they had plows out out for it, and just driving rain).

Lightening to start more fires.

It's best not to water cactus at all. They are designed for drought periods, but oddly enough sugaro's are ignored, and you will experience a die off in five years or so.

We are desperate for rain in my part of Texas. While the drought level was lowered a bit about a month ago, which is based on the aquifers health, the heat is now horrendous. Hotter than expected.

We have well water. We are extremely cautious about watering plants, etc. They are taking a beating. And we have a lot of wildlife hanging around. We live on a river, it's at a decent enough level "for now". So the animals are okay right now. But we don't want it to get worse.

Yes, our summer storms are usually small and short lived, but they can be violent.
