'Careless' foreman crushes woman, 19, with backhoe at Bexar County construction[W:53]

Re: 'Careless' foreman crushes woman, 19, with backhoe at Bexar County construction s

Before, or after the investigation?

Looks like they have enough evidence to charge him with already.

Does it?

Apparently, he has a history of negligence...and drinking on the job.

That doesn't mean it wasn't the girls fault. Workers get hurt everyday, through their own unsafe conduct. Past conduct is only relevent if he's found to be at fault.

As a owner operator of heavy equipment for many years I can say stuff can go wrong very quickly. Accidents unfortunately do happen and the causes can be many. Anyone that has a opinion on this and has never sat on a hoe, dozer, excavator, skidsteer, dump truck etc etc etc, needs to shut your mouth as you are clueless about the hazards involved.

Once maybe....but he hit her with the backhoe a week before he killed her. Maybe he just didn't like women working in construction.

Well, what do you think is the most likely cause?

That's why I say it isn't automatically the operator's fault.

So very true. I used to own a piggyback forklift for my oilfield operations. Sometimes it didn't matter how safe you tried to operate, sometimes it felt as though the rig hands wanted to commit suicide.

I know!! And everyone that has ever ran equipment for any length of time has had that moment of wow!! That could have ended very badly. There is so many variables from just plain stupidity, not paying attention, fatigue, people being stupid around equipment and the operator not seeing them, breakdowns, operator being stupid, noise, weather, amount of equipment in operation, not using common sense, to many rules, not enough rules. The list is endless. Those that are not in this world need to keep their mouth shut as they are clueless and their opinion is worthless. Wait and see what the investigation brings is the best advice as I can promise is will be one or a combination of factors I listed above. Cheers.

I will say this and this is going to piss some of you off. Whether or not the 19 year old was at fault, I can say this coming from this world. A 19 year old does not know jack **** about working around equipment. You know why? Simple time called no life experiences . Now being a woman just compounded the problem in this world. News flash men and women are very different. ( thank goodness!) And the vast majority of women would not thrive in this world. ( there is talented women in this world, but not the norm as most women want nothing to do with this line of work)

Politicizing this girls death is trolling

She was in a hole and he dropped the bucket on her. That doesn't sound like a pinch point...that sounds more like a trap.

That's exactly what a pinch point is.

Re: 'Careless' foreman crushes woman, 19, with backhoe at Bexar County construction s

That's exactly what a pinch point is.

A pinch point implies that he deliberately chased or corralled her into a corner. Is that what you think he did?

That isn't a pinch point.

Each year, workers suffer approximately 125,000 caught or crushed injuries that occur when body parts get caught between two objects or entangled with machinery. These hazards are also referred to as "pinch points". The physical forces applied to a body part caught in a pinch point can vary and cause injuries ranging from bruises, cuts, amputated body parts, and even death.

Well of course it is as you are not from this world and are clueless. ( I said it would piss some off and you are the example) . Sorry you can deny the self evident but that does not change the fact. Don't believe me ask anyone from this world and they will tell you the same thing don't bother with this site as your choices will be limited. I can assure you that calluses on your butt and on your finger tips from sitting behind your keyboard is not considered working with one's hands. Cheers.

The article said she was crushed...not pinched. He dropped the crane bucket on her.

As I side, one of my first jobs out of HS was operating a machine called the "mangler". That was a pinch point waiting to happen, alright.
