    Tornados hit Tennessee, killing 19

Tornados hit Tennessee, killing 19 people.

Jesus Christ. My heart goes out to the families of those killed. Please be safe, folks. Sometimes I forget just how widespread tornados are in the United States.

It’s in the small things that the rot starts. Do the wrong thing once, it’s easier to do it again. Do the individualistic thing once, it is easy to do it again.

So terrible. Tornado warnings absolutely terrify me.

It infuriates me when I hear people (not you) talk about "Tornado Alley," as if that was the only place where tornadoes occurred.

Nighttime tornadoes are even worse because people can be asleep and cannot see them coming.

A recent hire where I once worked had just a few days before moved to CA from Kansas. We were on the 11th floor, one from the top floor, of the tallest building in town. We had a quake that made the bldg sway and was enough to reach for something to keep balance. She quit that day and went back to KS. Kansas has one of the highest rate of tornadoes in the US.

We are still staying in our rv, and some bands of the storm came through here around 4 am. It was scary for sure, but we were so lucky. My heart goes out to those in the path of that tornado.

Glad you're OK. RV's are not fun places to be during severe weather.

And the news gets worst.... Just dreadful.
Night time Tornadoes are much more dangerous. People in bed and did not know what hit them.

Tornadoes devastate Tennessee, killing at least 22 people

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tornadoes ripped across Tennessee as families slept early Tuesday, shredding more than 140 buildings and burying people in piles of rubble and wrecked basements. At least 22 people were killed, many of them before they could even get out of bed, authorities said.

Sirens and cellphone alerts sounded, but the twisters that struck around 2 a.m. moved so quickly that many people in their path could not flee to safer areas.

“It hit so fast, a lot of folks didn’t have time to take shelter,” Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said. “Many of these folks were sleeping.”

Dixie Alley is most hit during this time of year (March, April and May).

Nothing will ever compared to the April 27, 2011 super outbreak that hit Miss. and Alabama. That was bad ****. What made that outbreak worse was that Round 1 hit early in the morning (midnight to 4) and caused massive power outages, hurting the ability to get news out during Round 2, which was that afternoon when the deadliest hit.

The area where 18 of the victims died is rural ... there were no sirens for these people and the cell tower/towers seem to have been "knocked out of service" before the tornado hit.
