Some Republicans say this bill has too many strings attached.

In a legislative hearing Tuesday, Tennessee lawmaker John Hensley questioned a proposal that would make tampons tax exempt during his state’s tax-free holiday period. The GOP legislator explained that if the tax is lifted, women might go willy-nilly in purchasing the hygienic necessity.

Would make sense only if you ha a spare garage stall or empty basement as well as a friend with a van or truck.

Good thing someone is looking out for those poor women.
Can you imagine if they spent all the mortgage and grocery money because tampons had no tax for a a few days?
What utter chaos.

Such a good thing they're looking out for women.
Good ol state legislators

Do you believe that women should pay a tax on tampons while condoms are not taxed? Your male privilege is showing.

It's Tennessee folks

oh ffs...

Tampons are bad for the environment and plumbing systems. Women should have to go back to being on the rag when they are on the rag to save the planet.

Often, these sorts of articles are not what the headlines say they are.
Other times, state legislators outdo themselves.

Indeed, lol. Me, I always enjoy your sardonic wit. You're one of my faves!

Condoms are bad for the environ and plumbing systems. Men should abstain from intercourse or just get a vasectomy to save the planet from their idiotic ideas .

Okay. Sounds like a plan....or maybe pullout and pray

This guy cannot possibly be married and make this asinine statement. Why would any women go on a tampon buying spree? Does he think we look forward to our period?

Only a bleeding heart would want to lift the tax on tampons.

Silly laws like that just make some people see red.

I so hope that was an intentional pun. :D

I can sort of see the argument but it seems to be one against this entire “tax free holiday period” since the same argument must apply to anything else non-perishable it already applies to.

I assume the push to include feminine hygiene products is intended as a step in removing the tax on them entirely (which makes perfect sense to me but doesn’t seem to be happening in many places for some reason).

None of your business what goes on in my state liberals. Leave TN alone. You're not going to destroy this state like you did CA and NY. We like our way of life here, get over it!!!

So what are they going to put a tax on toilet paper?

Used tampons should be disposed of in the trash. I rented a house once where a number of young women lived who flushed theirs down the toilet. When the septic plugged (pun intended), the septic cleaning guy had to spend an hour with a steel bar to unclog the mess.

And people say it's the democrats who are trying to legislate morality.

Used tampons = not pregnant = no reason for an abortion. That's a good thing for those against abortion. Am I right?
