West Virginia prison guard trainees suspended over Nazi salute photo | US news | The Guardian

Governor Jim Justice condemned the image and ordered those involved to be fired

After a photo surfaced of West Virginia correction officer trainees giving what appears to be the Nazi salute, state officials quickly suspended some employees and the governor ordered the firing of those involved.

The image, showing more than two dozen trainees with their arms raised and faces blurred, was released on Thursday by the West Virginia department of military affairs and public safety.

Smart they're not. Unemployed they are.

A clear First Amendment violation.

A group giving the Nazi salute is as protected by the 1stA. as shouting fire in a crowded movie theater is.

What is this idiotic infatuation with the Nazis?

They might as well piss on the graves of American military members of World War II who died fighting the Nazis.

I thought maybe there were 4 or 5 morons but it is the whole class. What the hell.

A group giving the Nazi salute endangers others' lives?

I think authority figures like prison guards are expected to have 'good order & discipline.' Nazi salutes are neither.

Yeah but the point is that the governor swore to the Constitution.

I don't care if he swore on a stack of Bibles. The Constitution has nothing to do with 'good order & discipline.' Check this: Principles of Professional Conduct | CorrectionalOfficer.org

Correctional officers adhere to a code of ethics and professional conduct, which is a set of standards pertaining to morals and the effective discharge of duties. There is no uniform text for the code, with each jurisdiction or facility allowed to craft its own. However, the overarching goal is to administer justice with integrity, and within the bounds of the law. The code serves as the basis of policies and directives, rules and regulations, protocols and procedures, all of which are observed and undertaken in relation to facility management and operations. It embodies such core values as discipline, judiciousness, truthfulness, vigilance, respect for human rights, and sense of responsibility.

Then the governor didn't have to be involved. He can condemn this all he wants but to order them fired for exercising their free speech?

This is the last time I'm going through this: shouting fire in a crowded movie theater is not considered free speech either. There are common sense limits on behavior.

To be accurate, we were fighting the country of Germany and the German military.

It's a distinction that is lost on many people. Rommel wasn't a Nazi.

Is there some book or list a person can obtain of required and prohibited body movement, dress, word, sound, opinion, facial expressions, images, personal possessions, ideological beliefs, and other strict rules of behavior - crossed references to every possible circumstance and person to avoid employment and social sanctions, punishment and hatred for the rest of a person's life?

Ideally, it should be fully updated and edited no longer than on a monthly basis. Where can I buy and subscribe to such an official publication and which Democratic organization to purchase it from?

At no time were more than 10% of Germans Nazis, nor were most members of the military. It was only later on that there was increasing blending between the Germany military and such as the Nazi SS, which was previously a fashion of feared police force of ruthless practices for the Nazi Party and Hitler.

The “regular” German military was every bit as guilty in the crimes committed on the Eastern Front and elsewhere as the SS. The idea of the “clean Wehrmacht” is a myth.

nazis are scum.

It's always nice to know that there are some people who are more stupid than I.

How could those individuals in 2019 possibly think that they could get away with that stunt?

Most Americans have an inner censor that tells them: "Don't do that, dude/dudess!"
