Scalise: Louisiana defeat doesn't make Trump 'look bad' | TheHill

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards’s (D) reelection by a narrow margin Saturday did not make President Trump “look bad” after Trump visited the state three times in support of Republican candidate Eddie Rispone.

“What he said was he'd be made to look bad whether he came in the state or not. Eddie Rispone made up about a 22-point disadvantage over the last month because of President Trump's involvement. So Eddie Rispone was at about 27 in the primary. He ended up at 49,” Scalise told Fox News’s Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”

He was supposed to say that not losing, by as much as was expected, is actually winning. ;)

He left out the super important word "winning" whenever making any reference to Trump.
 
In reflects poorly on Trump in the respect that he did a poor job picking his battles. Presenting JBE as a crazy liberal doesn't pass the laugh test.

When Trump makes an election all about himself, he looks like a loser even if he wasn't on the ballot. I'm actually impressed that the "I need you to vote Republican to make me look good" appeal works as well as it does. It sounds to me like a used car salesman saying "please by this car so I can make money". Not a good pitch.

Well it doesn't help Trump's influence in these types of races either. The two gubernatorial races he's campaigned for have resulted in loses; I'm sure some are thinking whether the Trump brand is really worth having around for your campaign.

Trump literally begs people to vote for the guy he endorsed so that Trump can have a "win", guy loses, lapdog says Trump doesn't look bad.
