Florida Senate approves bill allowing armed teachers

Brilliant. The solution to mass shootings is to turn them into shootouts. Is this really the best we can do?

In the active shooter situation in Parkland, while the badged, armed, law enforcmeent officer hid outside and was joined by other cops who didnt enter the school for a full 10 minutes AFTER the shooting stopped, several heroic citizens took fire and even lost their lives protecting children. But leftists would rather see gunmen roam the hallways of schools unchallenged by armed response than see responsible citizens exercise their constitutional rights and have a legitimate shot at stopping the shooting.

At Sandy Hook, Law enforcement didnt arrive on site for 16 minutes and again didnt enter the school until 8 minutes after the last gunshot was fired. But leftists would rather see gunmen roam the hallways of schools unchallenged by armed response than see responsible citizens exercise their constitutional rights and have a legitimate shot at stopping the shooting.

At Columbine High School the Armed On Duty school resource law enforcement officer was ON CAMPUS at the time of the shooting...but refused to engage the shooters. The two shooters fired their weapons unchecked for 51 minutes...when they decided to take their own lives. Law enforcement didnt enter the building for another hour and a half. But leftists would rather see gunmen roam the hallways of schools unchallenged by armed response than see responsible citizens exercise their constitutional rights and have a legitimate shot at stopping the shooting.

In May 2018, at Noblesville West Middle School, science teacher Jason Seaman phsyically assaulted an active shooter, knocking the guns from the shooters hand preventing a mass school shooting. He took three rounds in his heroic action.

At Pearl High School, Asst Principal (and Army Reservist) Joel Myrick armed with a 1911 Colt 45 stopped Luke Woodham and held him at gunpoint after he had shot 9 people, including his mother earlier in the day.

In March of 2018, the armed school resource officer shot and stopped an armed gunman at Great Mills High School in Maryland.

But leftists would rather have the dead bodies to be able to use in their crusade against firearm ownership than see responsible citizens exercise their constitutional rights and have a legitimate shot at stopping the shooting.

History demonstrates that when there is armed response to school shooters, it doesnt result in a 'shootout'. It terminates the mass shooting.

You should read the actual historical precedence...and there is a fair amount of it out there to read.

1-Historically...your comments are false. That is either a byproduct of you being uneducated on the subject or a deliberate lie. 2-No one would suggest your neighbor couple should arm themselves. These types of initiatives have nothing to do with arming the teachers as an armed response unit. But again...yours...and their response is born of ignorance...deliberate or otherwise.

Teachers who volunteer to bring guns to schools would have to undergo a psychological test and at least 144 hours of training, the results of which have to be approved by law enforcement.

Sounds like they are taking the steps to see the teachers who do choose to bring a gun would have extensive training which was my first thought when I started reading. My daughter's teacher is tiny, about the size of her students, so I would want to make sure someone like her is not only protected but has the training to back it up.
